Adding a day to a ticket and Fastpass + question

So here is my dilemma...

I am booked to go to WDW at Christmas time. Our original plan called for us to be busy on Christmas day but that has changed and I now want to visit the parks on that day. I have an annual pass but bought 7 day tickets for my wife and kids. I now want to make it an 8 day ticket and understand that because I bought these from an outside vendor, I can only upgrade once I arrive. (Please someone correct if that is not the case).

Assuming that is the case, that leaves me one day short to make Fastpass plus reservations during Christmas week. I assume I can only make reservations for them for 7 days.

Am I stuck dealing with Fastpasses (or the lack thereof) once I arrive or is there any way to get around this. With it being one of the busiest weeks of the year, I'm thinking fastpasses will be gone.

Your understanding is correct, you will not be able to book FP for the eighth day for your family, until you do the upgrade when you arrive.

You can choose any day to be "FP-less" for the FP booking in advance. So pick a day that you plan to do fewer in-demand attractions. Go ahead and book yours that day (if you are staying at a Disney resort -- if you are not, then you will not be able to book more than 7 days on your AP, either), and try to copy the others once you do the upgrade. If there isn't availability to do that, then try for overlapping times or just reschedule yours.

Even during a busy time, FPs are never "gone". There is almost always SOMETHING available, especially if you leave a day later in the trip to be the day you still need to book, and do the upgrade right when you arrive.

Thanks. We are staying on property. Split stay with WL and BW.
