Adding a 2nd room at the Poly

We are on our way to the Poly in late August. Me, my wife and 3 children (13, 10, 7). My wife is getting a little freaked out that we will just be in one room for the trip. Adding a 2nd room is pretty pricey right now. Has anyone had the experience of adding a 2nd room at check-in? The thought is that if they have availability, they would give us a last minute deal. Any advice would be appreciated.

They won't give you a deal.

Disney isn't known for deals, lol. If they did it, it would be all over the internet just like that and everyone would try to get last-minute deals.

They may not even have a room available.

If you want a second room (and I'm with your wife, thinking that it'll be a nightmare if you don't get one), try to book it now.

I would book it now. You'll be paying rack rate most likely..I added a day on the end of my trip, and we had to change resorts and the only deluxe rooms available were all suites. It was mid August.

Poly rooms are pretty big. I think with 5 you will be fine personally. Two queen beds and the couch/bed which is pretty big. I would put your oldest in the couch/bed (pretty comfy by the way), and put your two youngest in the other queen.

I'd put that other huge chunk of money saved from a second room and put it towards tours or something special for the fam. Just my opinion!

You will pay rack rate on the second room if you add it at check-in. We once booked a room at GF at 10:30 pm after a nice dinner at a GF restaurant because dh was, unfortunately, feeling quite ill due to a norovirus he had picked up and didn't feel like returning all the way to Beach Club (and possibly being sick in the taxi). One would think they'd have given us something of a deal since the room was not going to be used by anyone else that night, and dh was sick, and we already had an expensive room paid for at BC for the night which we would not be using. Also, I knew that rooms were available with an AP discount but it was Sunday and CRO had closed, so I couldn't get a room that way. The front desk would not give us the AP rate. We were charged full rack rate.

Upshot - don't expect any last minute deals at Disney!

Also, as another poster said, Poly rooms are large. Five of you will be fine in one room.

I had 3 adults, pack n play and 3 kids in the room and we were fine(kids were 10,6 and 2) but thats my opinion, I wouldnt book another room, you could use that money on another trip! lol

We had 3 adults and 2 kids in a room at the Poly and we were fine. Think about how much time you'll be spending in the room. If you feel that justifies getting a second room, then you should book it now.

I agree with pp in saving that money and putting a chunk of it toward a special tour or activity for your family.

Have fun!:thumbsup2

I'm not sure why people think there should be a deal just because you are booking late. Deals are done to attract customers not to give people a break. So, if a person shows up at my hotel and wants the room I don't have to give a deal, I've already got the sale.

Another way to look at this is that if a hotel did that as a matter of course then everyone would try to show up at the last minute to get a deal. That's just a way for a hotel to lose income and losing income is never one of the business purposes of a hotel.

Hotels that give that kind of deal are ones that need any business they can get and Disney is not one of those.

And that is the huge difference between a hotel and a resort - which Disney is considered a resort.

To the OP, you will pay full rack rate for the room if you add it at check-in; there are no "last-minute deals" at Disney.
