adding 1 night to a DVC stay...

We will be staying at SSR in a studio in Oct, courtesy of my SIL's DVC points. Our stay begins on Saturday, but we will be flying in on Friday(the 13th!)...should I reserve a room for 1 night through the website or call the resort?
I was thinking of booking at another resort and transferring in the a.m. but without a car it may take too much of our vacation time.

Since you will be there during the Food and Wine festival, I wouldn't count on any studios at any DVC resort being open. I just tried to book a studio in the first week of NOVEMBER and nothing at ANY DVC resort was open because it is the last week of the Food and Wine Festival (I thought it was over by then, and so was surprised when my email request for a reservation that week was denied).

Your SIL can always call on Wed morning and see if anything is available, but I'm guessing that you'll have to book at another resort (non-DVC) for that night. Good luck!

Disney will transfer your bags between resorts for you, so it shouldn't really take up too much time.

Call the resort they know you will be checking in the next day so it will help. Also much easier for you.
