I read this recently but want to know if anyone has direct experience with this...is it common for Disney to allow you to add one person to a reservation when you check in? For example I was able to book a reservation for a group of 4 but I actually have 5. Will Disney allow me to add one person?

Probably, but not guaranteed. Especially if they need to go up a table size from what was anticipated.

Your best bet is to update your reservation prior to travel. As for success in person...It varies. Going from 3 to 4 usually isn't a big deal, since you'd likely be seated at a table that can accommodate 4. Going from 4 to 5 usually means a larger table. In either case, the numbers all tie back to fire code and depending on crowds and such, they may not be able to allow for one more. We've had times when they've been able to do it (sometimes with an added wait) and we've also been told no. So, I'd plan on the potential of being told no just so you have a backup plan.

Also, depends on where you are going. If it's an eatery that is hard to secure a reservation, like O'hanas, then it is a problem or if it is Edison, where there are lots of larger tables and 4 tops that can be made larger, then it's not a problem.

I was at Disney last week, and you can check-in to the reservation on the app fifteen minutes before the reservation time. Each time i checked in on the app (which i didnt do every time), the app asked me if i wanted to add one more diner. I don't know if that is uniform. I know the option was there for Be Our Guest of all things.

As others shared going from a 4-top to needing a larger table can be problematic. Depending on where you are going and when this could be a near impossible situation. I'd try to call and add one person, but hate to say it I'd be prepared to be turned away possible too.
