Could everyone give me their thoughts on adding Water options to our tickets in January or not worth it??
We are a family of 5 kids aged 14, 12, 9 from Australia, never been to Disneyworld before. I see Typhon Lagoon will be closed while we are there. Is it worth adding the Water options onto our tickets in January. We would like to look at Blizzard beach because we have never seen it, but will it be too cold to use it?? What else to you get with that option. Is it cheaper just to pay for Blizzard beach for one day. Or would we be better to have the option for other things?? Can anyone help me!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We went in January, 2006 and a couple months before our trip they had a promotion where if you were staying onsite you got some package discount with a free ticket upgrade to park hoppers with water parks and Disney Quest. Since they did the free dining plan again, they may do the free ticket upgrade again (?)

Anyway, we were there Jan 5th-13th. The temperatures the first few days were so cool we wore sweatshirts and jackets all day. By the end of the trip we had 2 or 3 days that were warm enough to swim. We never made it to Blizzard Beach, but our kids were only 5 and 3 years old, so water parks weren't a huge priority. DH and I did go to DisneyQuest one day. We had fun but only stayed 1.5 hours and agreed it NEVER would have been worth it if we actually had to pay! (We're mid 30s and not into video games- I imagine teens and pre-teens would LOVE this place.) I'm pretty sure those ticket upgrades also get you into Pleasure Island.

I found out about the free ticket upgrade here on the DisBoards. Keep an eye out starting in about October. Otherwise, you can easily upgrade your tickets during your trip. Might be a good idea to wait just in case it's too cold to swim. Have fun! January is a great time to go!!!

if you book the tickets now, on a package, do they automatically give you the special if it happens. Or best to leave buying the tickets until just a few weeks before?? Or buy the base ticket now and add the options later if they don't have a free special?? I think I've confused myself!

Hi Caltha. We've gone several times in January (and will be going again this year in later December/early January) and we've encountered weather ranging from scraping frost off the rental car windows with credit cards to low 80s F.

We're going with base "Magic Your Way" tickets, and will upgrade them on the spot if the weather seems good for swimming when we get there. It needs to be warmer to go to a water park than it does to go into a hotel pool, because you're walking around wet, not just exiting and going back to your room.

If you're only going to 1 waterpark, then it's cheaper to buy that admission separately when you get there. On the other hand, if you think you'd like to visit twice, or maybe go to Disney Quest, Pleasure Island or Wide World of Sports as well, then the "waterpark fun and fun more" option is worth it. A seven to ten day base pass gets 6 "waterpark fun and fun more" options.

Cheers,

As Floridians, we wouldn't swim in winter. Weather is going to be variable. Could be 40 degrees F and could be 80. Could be both within hours. Disney does maintenence and rehab on water parks because they are not as popular then as in summer when it is sure to be hot.

I do hope you enjoy Florida. Your resort will have swimming pool. If you stay at Yacht/Beach or Boardwalk, then you can be assured of waterslides. As to other resorts, I'll defer to others personal knowledge.

You don't say where you are staying but most of the resorts have wonderfully themed pools, that you may find are perfectly satisfying (and at no extra cost!). If there are one or two days warm enough to swim, just run back to your hotel and go for a dip!

My wife and I went last year near the end of Jan. being from Minnesota we found it plenty warm to swim. Now keep on mind we left the fridgid northlands to 70 degree weather, so we pretty much felt like it was summer.
YMMV. The pools were alittle cold, not teeth chattering, but it was warmer then Minnesota. :wave2:

I wouldn't add the water option in January, unless it is free! We went to WDW in Dec last year and it was too cold to swim (30s and 40s at night and 50s and 60s during the day with rain). With humidity, it felt lots cooler. I am glad we didn't pay for the water option. We could only swim in the resort's pool twice.

Ditto disneyphar!

If the weather is hot enough to swim when you arive, you can also add options on to your ticket at that time.

herc.
