Hello everyone,

I think my DH is finally convinced we need more points (just bought SSR in February, already "booked" all my current points available and NEED to go more!!)

Anyway, can someone help me understand a few things about add-ons?

I'd REALLY like the BWV's since that was my first love and the guide said I couldn't get it, but now I find out I can actually. IF Disney has any points available, what is their selling price on them? Same as SSR current points?

What closing costs can I expect from Disney if I buy through them?

How hard is an August use year to get? Seems like it's a popular one...just my luck!

If I buy resale, do they have waitlists?

How long does a resale take to get into the Disney system? I know with the original purchase, I was able to call almost immediately and book my vacations. I'm assuming I'd have to wait until at least closing with a resale?

Were there any other perks of membership prior to SSR at any resorts that convey to a resale owner that I might want to consider before going back to Disney direct?

And lastly (for now)... when will I stop wanting MORE points??????? ;) ;) ;)

Thank you all in advance for any help you can give.

Patty

This is just a thought, have you passed your 15 day recission period? If not, you could cancel your SSR contract and just buy BWV since that is really what you want. Sorry your guide misled you.

The current price for points at most of the "sold out" resorts is $92/point. (There is a $5/pt discount for VB and HHI at the moment.) The price is supposedly going up a bit sometime between now and June (not sure exactly when). There are no closing costs if you add on points through Disney.

Several people have added on at BWV recently so there are points available there. Call your guide and he/she can tell you what is available in your UY. If there are none available, ask to be put on a waitlist. I don't think you will have to wait very long, if at all, to add on at BWV. If your UY is available, the points will be in your account within about 24 hours of paying your deposit.

The BWV points will appear as an "add-on" contract to your master contract (same main contract number with a ".001" on the end). You can combine points from the master and add-on contracts to make reservations at the 7-month window and the points are pooled for banking purposes.

You must purchase a minimum of 25 points (50 points if you want financing) and can purchase whatever number of points suits you: 29 points, 83 points, etc.

If you decide to purchase a BWV resale contract, contact a resale broker and tell him/her what you want. They will take your info and call you if an appropriately sized contract comes in. Smaller contracts are in high demand and may not even make it to the online listings, or are sold within minutes of appearing. The folks at The Timeshare Store are great people to work with. I purchased my main BWV contract through them and everything went very smoothly. As you know, prices vary on the resale market with smaller contracts generally commanding a higher price/point, and you will pay closing costs.

The process takes about 2 months: you make an offer, the buyer accepts, you send in a deposit, your contract is submitted to Disney for review (the infamous "right of first refusal" process which can take up to 30 days), you pass ROFR and send in the closing paperwork with your final payment, you close, your contract goes to Disney who takes about 10 days to get you into the system and you can start using those points.

Be aware that even if you purchase a resale contract with the same UY as your SSR contract, it will not automatically be set up as an add-on to your master contract. You (or maybe your broker) must work with Disney after closing to ensure that the contract is set up as an add-on. Otherwise, you will end up with two completely separate contracts where the points cannot be combined for reservations and banking purposes. I have no first-hand experience with this but others here do so maybe someone else can elaborate on this. Otherwise, ask the resale broker about this.

I'm not aware of any.

I don't believe that feeling ever goes away!

Unfortunately I did not find these boards until after the 15 day period to do anything. Our guide insisted we COULD NOT buy BWV's and even said getting points there could be a wait of YEARS. I was very emphatic about that being my TRUE LOVE RESORT, but he didn't budge in his information. We believed him. We learned our lesson the hard way.

It's not that horrible. Although I would love to own BWV's only, I don't think owning SSR is terrible. Our children are teenagers (19 and 16, boys) and we like to go to DW by ourselves too. I think the whole layout and nature of the SSR is conducive to relaxation and rest...plus, it's still Disney. But I would like for a couple trips to be BWV's for the faster pace stuff too...

We tend to travel in shorter time frames - 3-4 day trips off seasons, midweek, a few times a year versus one or two longer trips. I don't even see us planning any full week trips in the near future unless something changes radically.

So, we'll keep our eyes and ears open for BWV add on points. I would want at least 150, maybe 175 or 200 I think....we only have 175 at SSR, and I want 3-4 trips a year instead of 1-2...

Thank you all for your information! I'll keep looking at resales and check with my guide again. Maybe he'll sing a different song this time...

A few things to keep in mind. You already own SSR so you can purchase an add-on directly through Disney. That's the good news. The bad is that the add-on must be in your current use year month. So it's possible there could be points available at BWV for sale, but none in your particular use year month. And if your particular use year month has a long waiting list, it could indeed be years before something comes available for you personally, while others with different UY months are able to buy.

If you purchase resale, and it's a different use year month, keep in mind it becomes a totally separate contract and NOT an add-on contract. In such a case points are used totally separately from each other, and banking percentages apply to each contract individually.

With Add-on contracts, points can be combined in any manner you want for making reservations, and it's the combined point totals that set banking percentages. If you purchase resale, try to get the same use year month if possible and work with your broker to have the points treated as an add-on to your SSR membership, and not as a totally new membership.
Just $0.02

If you buy at least 150 points at BWV via DVC, you can get any UY (but, I recommend getting the same UY). There is not much of a wait (if any) for Aug UY BWV...I have a friend who just bought a few hundred points at BWV Aug UY....he said they had lots of points.

The thing to keep in mind is that buying from DVC CAN be a big bargain....depending on the time of year that you buy. First, there is no closing costs...a big plus. But also, with an Aug 2005 UY, you will get all 2005 points, but the dues will be "pro-rated"....so, you would not pay for Jan, Feb, and most likely March. That is a savings as well. With the 2005 points, if you are not planning to use them before August, have your guide bank them into 2006 UY....that's like getting "double" points.
