Hi All - thinking hard about adding on. I have a contract with just me. If I add on - can the new points be purchased with me and addition owners such as my husband and maybe my sister? Wasn’t sure how it works since I already am an existing owner.

Thanks in advance!

That would trigger a new Membership. You would have to purchase the minimum number of points for a new membership. That is currently 150.

To be added to your existing membership, the new contract must be titled exactly the same as your existing membership.

One solution is to buy the new contract under your existing membership, and then arrange to add the additional members to all the contracts in the existing membership.

Both multiple memberships and multiple owners should be considered carefully as both arrangements have pros and cons.

One more question - how many owners can you have and does everyone in their household her the perks?

Not sure how many owners, but only the individuals on the membership/title officially get a membership card and direct access to the perks (although of course you can use the perks for family members etc. when you initiate them). For example, our daughter could not go and get a DVC discount on a purchase if we're not with her (much to her chagrin -- which is why she values her AP lol).

Contracts can have up to 6 owners. All owners are then eligible for me membership extras if you buy at least 150 points.

You all are the best! If you can’t tell - I’m really trying to justify my add-on itis!!

It is relatively easy to add additional purchasers after you have a membership/contract. We recently added our sons once the youngest reached 18 (all members do need to be 18), we had 3 contracts and paid around $400 +/-total to have it done through the title company (took a couple weeks). I believe there is a Disboards topic on here about how to do it yourself for less than $100.
Unless you are trying to keep separate it is good to have all the contracts match in title so points can easily be used together on reservations (7 month rule if different properties).
Once your Husband and Sister are added they will have all rights/benefits that you as the purchaser have, with or without you being present.

I added my husband when we got married. It was simple as a quit claim deed. I had a legal plan through my employer at the time and it covered the cost on it. I live in NY and had an attorney in FL do the paperwork for me.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding correctly. We have a direct purchase through Disney and already qualify for membership benefits. I'm about to add a resale contract and want this one titled with mine and my husband's name. The agent at Fidelity said it should link fine to my current membership as long as we list my name first on this contract.

Is this not the case?

If the contract(s) in the first membership are titled in your name only, that means a contract with both your and your husband’s names will NOT be an add-on, it will be a new membership because the owners are different. And your husband will not have direct benefits himself because he is not an owner of the contract(s) that give you direct benefits.

The new membership will show on your dashboard on the member website, but it will be a new number that you access via a drop-down box. That’s probably what the Fidelity agent means when they say the new contract will “link” to your existing contract. (It’s also possible that the Fidelity agent doesn’t understand the difference between contracts and memberships in DVC.)

If buying direct, you would be entitled to member pricing because you are a member, but you will have to buy a minimum of 100 points in one contract because that’s the minimum for a new membership, and you’d have to buy at least 150 points for your husband to have direct benefits himself.

Different owners = different membership
Different UY = different membership

That’s why advice above is to add your husband to your existing contract(s) via gratuitous transfer, then add on the additional points you want.

To add to what was already shared, two memberships is like being two different people. You can not combine the points for a single reservation without doing a transfer first. And, once transferred, there are rules that apply.

For example, you can't borrow transferred points for a trip. Transferred points don't play nice online during the home resort booking period because MS has to create a temporary contract to hold them....and that may mean calling to use them.

If your goal is to use all your points together, then you need to have all owners the same on both of the contracts to keep them in the same membership.

Thank you so much for clarifying! Looks like I found out just in time before we start signing the initial documents this morning.
