I am still in the process of shopping DVC so forgive my stupidity on this one but I need some help. If I own 100 pts at SSR but find that I would rather stay at AKV can I buy a small contract...say 25-50 points so that I will have the 11 month window available to me at AKV for ALL my points? Meaning, if I get the small add on can I spend all 150 points at AKV on a ressie 11 months out even though 100 of them are SSR based?

I have a feeling this doesn't work this way because it seems too easy to buy cheap points at SSR and maybe even Vero and then let little contracts get you in.

I really want more points for our buck but I am nervous because if I buy into SSR and then am ready to book for MNSSHP and I can't get a studio at AKV I will be

You are correct, it doesn't work that way. If you buy 25 points at AKV, then at 11 months, you can only use those 25 points, unless you have banked or borrowed points, and then you can use up to 75.

But, those SSR points are only good at SSR until the 7 month window. At that time, you can book anywhere using all the points combined.

What some do, is buy two home resorts so that they can alternate every other year and get the 11 month window. For example, buy 100 SSR and 100 AKV. Then, year 1, bank SSR and borrow AKV to use 200 AKV points at 11 months. Of course, in year 2, you would have 200 SSR points to book there.

If you want to stay at AKV, then buy there. While many have great luck trading at 7 months, there is no way to know for sure you are going to get what you want, when you want, and the type of room you want, for all the nights you want at 7 months. It really depends on when you are visiting.

If you buy and will be disappointed if you end up at SSR, then I would not buy there. We considered it too, to save around $5000, but in the end, went with BLT because that is where I wanted to stay and did not want to chance having it not available at the 7 month mark.

Good luck!

The 11 month priority booking window is only for the points at the home resort.
If you do buy at SSR and waitlist for AKV exactly at 7 months for September, my guess is that you would likely get into AKV most of the time. However, there are no guarantees, and many people say to buy where you want to stay or where you wouldn't mind staying.

I am a buy where you love to stay believer. Who knows what changes Disney will make in the future? What if they change the 7 month booking window to a 4 month window unless you pay a $300 priority fee. :scared1:
