I am closing next week on my 100 point OKW resale. I am planning a trip for next spring break and I am 3 points shy. So....I was thinking of doing an add on right away through Disney. I know the minimum is 25 points if you are paying cash. Here is my question. Is it worth putting these points at another resort or should I just put them at OKW. Just wondering pros and cons of very small contracts and what people use them for.

THANK YOU!

You only get the 11-month booking advantage for the number of points OWNED at a given resort. So even if you did add, say, 25 points at SSR, you would only have 25 points to book there at 11 months each year. Of course you could also plan your banking and borrowing carefully to give yourself 75 points every three years (i.e. if you bank the 25 from 2008, come 2009 you could use your points from '08, '09 and '10 for a single reservation at 11 months.)

So the main questions you should ask yourself are:

1. Is there another destination that appeals to you enough to want the 11-month window?

2. Will you be losing anything by NOT having 25 more OKW points to book at 11 months?

3. Will having 25 points per year (or up to 75 every three years) be enough to really give you a viable option at another resort?

Is the 3 point shortage a one time thing? If so, consider a one time transfer from another member to cover it. $30 -$40 is a lot less than $2500 (or whatever add ons are going for these days).

Don't want to discourage the add on, LOL, but if you aren't going to need 25 more points every year, will you be taking longer trips, going more often, trying to rent or transfer the excess? (I know, never enough points, LOL). Anyway, we always seem to have too many points each January, when the dues bill arrives. ;) Another thought for you to consider while planning how to use those resale points. :teeth:

It is a one time thing, just bad timing on our UY. I have posted a few times on the Rent/Trade board looking for points but so far no one wants to part with just 3. Any suggestions?

Consider paying cash for one of the nights. If you book the cash night through MS, you won't have any worries about having to move, or even check out and back in between the points and cash portions of your reservation. If there is availability, you may even be able to get a 25% member cash discount for that night. Friday and Saturday nights seem to be more available for cash via MS than do the other nights of the week.

If you're sure of your dates, you could also rent one night from another member. I know that will cosat more than a 3 point transfer and that you give up control, but it may be a better option if you really don't need 25 more points ongoing. MS can link the one night to your other nights. You should be able to find another owner willing to rent you a 1 night reservation, since the "one transfer in or out" rule doesn't apply to reservations.

Thanks Carol. It is good that I have a lot of time to sort this out. I just hate spending money on this just having bought the points! We will get it all sorted out. We are staying Sun-Fri so the 25% off cash is an option hopefully.

Now we are starting our countdown, the kids are so excited even though it is a year away!

If you do decide to go with an add on, I would add the 25 at OKW, keeping all of your points there.
