After reading the post on this thread RE; adding names to a deed, it got me thinking-that's always scarey!

Anyway, my in-laws always travel with us. Sometimes they may not want to . We are thinking of adding-on w/points for them. Can we do an add-on with all 4 of our names (me, DH, FIL & MIL) on the add-on portion only?

So if we added on points for them then we would have to add their names to all of our deeds or only the primary?
(We have points in 3 locations-2 are small add ons, 50 pts. and 75 pts. Our main and initial purchase for 170pts.)

you could "add-on" 150 points or more.
that would be enough points to make a brand new contract that had all 4 names on the deed.

if you added on less than 150pts, then their names will not be on the deed. only your and your DH's names will be on the add-on deed.

You could add on 150 points and make it a separate contract. You could change your deed (if there's no mortgage) and add them then do the add on. Or my recommendation which is to add them as associate members and then do the add on the same as the current deed. The only issue is they could access all your points. You could also add on and designate those 50 pts theirs and you just do all the contact. That way you could keep up with all of the points. Yo could also do an add on resale and have it as a stand along contract and have all names on it (or just theirs).

That is true. With an add-on resale there is no minimum points required, so they could have there own contract.

Looking at it from another view I would not advice anyone to have joint ownership with the in-laws. It just is not a smart thing to do. If you were single and wanted to go in with your parents and you were the only child in their will, then ok.. Death and divorce could really screw things up with the in-laws. That would be my reason not to go in with them on anything.

Good point Pam. You never know. My divorced brother and his ex alternate years on their DVC membership. Sometimes it gets tricky.

Of course spousal homicide could also put a damper on that joint ownership. (JUST KIDDING)
