Add-on Use Year Question

I currently own 60 points at BCV, that I purchased from TSS. I am considering adding on 30 points at BLT. :goodvibes I'm thinking probably my best bet is to add on directly through DVC. My question is, will they allow me to add on with a different UY or different names on the title? :confused3 My BCV contract only has my name, not by DH. The main reason I'd like a different UY is so that I could get 2009 and 2010 points to use for an upcoming Oct. stay. Also, Feb. UY isn't really the best for us since we normally vacation in the fall.

Any help is appreciated :thumbsup2

An add-on direct from Disney will have the same UY month and will be titled exactly the same as the master contract. The only way to change either would be to purchase a new master contract at the current new member minimum.

According to my guide...YES you can do this:thumbsup2..She strongly advises against it..but I like you bought resale with a Feb use year and we are considering buying October as well just for that same reason :)

As PP a different UY or different names on the title requires a new master contract and an additional membership.

Thanks for the replies! :goodvibes I left a msg for my guide just to double-check.

I wanted to do this last year (change UY's) and I was told that I had to purchase the minimum at BLT of 160 to do it.

If I had wanted to buy SSR or AKV, I could have done it at the 100 point level but not for BLT.

Any contract that is a different UY or titled different is a NEW master contract with a new member # and was told that is why they won't approve contracts that small.

Ok, just got off the phone with my guide, and she said that I could purchase a different UY, but that they strongly advised against it because of the difficulties that it causes for the owner. Also, I would have to sign a form to agree to it. And as far as the name change, there would be a fee of $250-$300 for DVC to take care of it.

I'm not sure yet whether we'll go through with the add-on or not (have to convince my DH but that's a whole different subject :goodvibes), so I'm not sure if when we actually went through with it if the 30-50 points would cause problems as far as a new contract or not.

Thanks again for the replies! :thumbsup2

And DVC will let you do all of this for a 30 point add on?

I'm doubting they'll allow it when it comes down to it. You can change the names yourself for much less than their charge. I'd also suggest against it as you'll have two totally separate memberships that cannot be combined directly. If you want to change the registration, you might consider changing the current one THEN adding on if you want them the same but want people listed that are not on the membership currently.

Can you explain what you mean that they "can't be combined directly?"

Thanks!:goodvibes

Can you explain what you mean that they "can't be combined directly?"

if you own separate use years, you can't combine 6 pts from one contract with 9 pts from another to book a single night at 15 pts, for example. (edited to add: unless you first transfer pts from one contract to the other.)

you can book 3 whole nights with one contract and 3 whole nights with the other and ask MS to link the stays but they would be under separate member numbers.

if you have 2 contracts under one member number (same UY month and same names on the title), then you could combine 6 pts from one contract with 9 pts from another to book a single night at 15 pts (at 11 months if both contracts are at the same home resort or 7 months if they are at different home resorts).

As Charles suggests, you can't easily combine points for a single night. You can transfer points from one contract to another and you can make reservations and link them. This is true for different use years regardless of the owners listed but also true of the same UY if the title is different in any way such as an additional owner.

I have not heard of anyone being able to buy less than the minimum buy in as an add on in a different UY directly from Disney is a LONG time, when I say long time, I'm talking 96 to 98 timeframe. Also, I don't recall hearing of Disney allowing one to purchase less than the minimum new buy in with different names. Many have reported asking and being told no. YMMV and Disney is nothing if not inconsistent.
