Add on resale points question

Hi! First time poster, long time lurker

Took the plunge in May to get our direct points for VGF with Dec use year.
I REALLY wanted BLT points, so I have still been checking now and again. Our direct points are under both my name and my husband's name.
If I add on resale points, same use year, do both of us still need to be on the contract?
Yes, possibly buying points on the sly... haha

ha. If you want it to be part of the same membership, yes the ownership must be the same.

I think you have to have all the same names on it to keep it under your membership. But I like your style! I may have thought (more than once) "I could just buy this little 25 point resale, he'd never know!"

I love the sly part! Needs to be deeded the same and same UY to keep as same membership. Just lay something over the contract when have him sign .

If you wanted to be reallllly sneaky.. the way to do it would be to buy the BLT contract with the same UY under your name and then later on when he’s okay with it in a few years add his name through a title company and then have it added to your current membership but that really would be a PITA so I’d just recommend bringing it up to him to begin with lol

Could still do it yourself. Would get a second membership number but both memberships would be managed in your personal DVC account. Can transfer points to your other membership under those rules. His personal DVC account would just have the one membership in it.

I've thought about doing this many times! Lol. The only thing holding me back is having separate memberships and having orphan points if I mess up my reservations...

Another consideration - if you buy Direct they tend to Really push for the same name/use year (it Does make it simplier and you can use the points for an 8am 11 month reservation, vs waiting for 9am and someone to help with transfer points) BUT the advantage to a different Use Year (easy to get with Resale) is that each Use Year = Another Membership which gets those two waitlists per year. Extra waitlists have advantages - especially with some resorts where there are a lot of room options - like VGF and its studio - Deluxe or Resort rooms for example, where with multiple waitlists you can try for either room if you're flexible. Goods and Bads to multiple Memberships.

Correct. And something else I think is a bit confusing - you ALSO can do two waitlists in each of your "Use Years" - so if you are booking a 2023 use year trip, and a 2024 use year trip, they can each have two waitlists. Then when you cancel or get those waitlists, you can set up more (so it is not two per year and no more, just the two at a time).

Yes. All direct points can.

Where points can be used and membership extras are two completely different things.

All direct points are good at RIV, VDH, and presumably all future resorts. It doesn’t matter whether or not you are eligible for membership extras or what else you might own.
