Hi - We are brand new DVC members... and I am already thinking about more points! I have a few quick and hopefully easy questions:

1. What is an add-on? Can you only add-on at your home resort?
2. What is the minimum for add-ons?
3. Assuming you can add-on at a different resort, what is the advantage to doing that versus just getting a whole new contract at a new resort?
4. Do you still have to do all the paperwork (not a big deal, really) or do they just deposit the points in your account?

OK, that's it for now, thanks everyone!

1.It is when you buy more points. You can add-on at any resort.
2.25 for cash. 50 if you finance.
3.You would have 2 membership numbers and have to transfer points from one to the another to pool your points.
4.Yes

An advantage of adding on at another resort is to have the 11 month booking window at another "Home resort". Keep in mind, only the points at that resort can be booked at 11 months out.

Here's my thoughts

1. What is an add-on? Can you only add-on at your home resort? An add-on is when you purchase a new contract and they 'add on' to your original master contract as a subcontract. So you will have contract number #######.0 and ########.1 You can add-on at any resort.
2. What is the minimum for add-ons?25 points, 50 with financing
3. Assuming you can add-on at a different resort, what is the advantage to doing that versus just getting a whole new contract at a new resort?Having the home booking advantage at more then one resort. Although you only have that advantage on points from that resort, you can bank and borrow to affectively have up to 3 times the amount of points for that home resort reservation.
4. Do you still have to do all the paperwork (not a big deal, really) or do they just deposit the points in your account? Yes, all the paperwork

Was told today if you add on points, you don't have to pay for closing again. It was explained as "you already own it, you're just adding to the size of your ownership, kind of like adding another room onto your house."

Oh, I never thought about closing costs... there are NOT closing costs with add-ons? Even if you are adding on at another resort?

Thanks everyone!

Correct, there are no closing costs for add-ons direct from Disney.

But there are closing costs if you buy resale, even for a small contract.

If you buy direct from Disney, your points will be available within one day or less (our add-on points were in our account that afternoon). However, when we purchased a third contract via resale it took about 6 weeks before we got our points. Saved money on that contract though ;).

If you are considering an add-on, I would highly recommend having the same UY on the add-on regardless of whether you choose to add-on at the same resort, or a different one. Things get much more complicated if you have different UY.

How could I find out how much add on points cost through Disney at SSR?
Thanks
