DW and I are seriously considering adding on to our 150 SSR points with about 30 SSR points. Here is my question -- would these points be available immediately or not until my October 2005 UY? Just wondering about the need to bank points as we won't be travelling home again until Mar. 2006.

Last I heard, they still had some 2004 points available for add-ons. That doesn't mean, however, that you'd *have* to take them. I'm sure you could just tell your guide that you want Oct 2005 UY and it wouldn't be a problem (this is what we did when we added on).

They have been changing some of the promotions lately, so please take whatever I write with a large grain of salt.

:earsgirl:

I just did a 75 point add on last month (Aug UY) and my new points were not available until Aug. I had a choice between Aug 04 and 05 and I chose 05.

Last I heard DVC was offering a discount of $5 off per point if you receive '04 points and $10 off if you defer until '05.

The threshold for taking advantage of such promotions is usually 100 points or more, but I swear that I've seen people here report that they bought less than 100 and still got the discounts under the current SSR promotion.

If you take the '04 points, you should get them immediately and begin to pay dues after closing. If you take the '05 points, you won't pay dues until the start of your Use Year.

This is the exact reason I didn't take the '04 points.

My initial inquiry was for 50 points and I was still offered the same incentives.

Another factor in my decision. Especially since I didn't *need* the extra points right away.

I have a call in to our guide Bernard and I'm expecting a return call back sometime today -- which causes me to wonder why I'm online with a dial-up connection. :confused3

We'll go for the 30 points -- probably '05, as we won't need the points until March '06.

I'll let you know what Bernard tells me re: cost, price increase, promotions, etc. Love doing the add-on dance :dancer: -- especially with new Smilies!

Thanks, Neil. Please do post an update. I'm trying to sell DW on another 50 pts before the end of February. :teeth:

Just got off the phone with Bernard Lebeaupin at DVC and plunked down my VISA for 30 SSR points.

Here's the scoop:
  • 2004 & 2005 points both available -- took the '05 to reduce costs re: fees.
  • $95/point, regardless of Phase 1 or 2 -- no promotion offered.
  • Phase 2 set to open "in a few days."
  • the crane I saw in the Fairway Villas area on about 8 JAN was work re: Phase 3.
  • didn't know when point price was going up -- I told him the "rumours" were end of February.
  • Bernard suggested that some DVC guides do follow the discussion on these boards. Hi Bernard!!! :wave2:

And now that my VISA gold card has been hit for $2850 US in Florida, I'm quite positive that I'll be declined if I try to do some shopping at the Disney Store in Hamilton, Ontario.

Thanks for the details.

You sure you don't want to take those '04 points? If the price is the same, you should only have to pay a pro-rated share of the dues--probably about $1.90 per point for Feb to July.

If you can't use them (they can still be banked!!!), I bet you could find a member to take them off your hands for $8-9 per point in a transfer. Even with that small number of points, you should be able to net a couple hundred dollars for probably 10 minutes worth of work.

Personally, I'd just bank them and use them next year. Getting another night in a 1B for about $60 is pretty hard to pass up!!!

I like the way you think tjkraz -- and the ripples those banked points would make would echo through our future WDW vacation plans for a number of years. I've done a few scenarios using David Frederickson's DVC Points Manager -- the OCT 2005 points alone make a huge difference in our plans to visit WDW. It's "free" money (coming out of yet another massive income tax refund), and I don't think this will be the end of the "add on" bug for us. It will probably come up on an annual basis.
