Hey everyone.

We bought a small contract at OKW several years ago via resale because we didn't want to have to finance...we bought a contract that is less than what is required for an initial contract buy-in, so it was a way for us to buy into DVC without assuming debt to do it.

We have been thrilled with our purchase and have managed to stretch our points nicely through some banking/borrowing & some renting of points here and there. (People would probably be amazed at how well we've been able to enjoy our teeny little contract despite its small size). We adore OKW, though we've tried out some other resorts, and we now feel most comfortable at "home" and don't want to stay anywhere else. We also chose to extend our contract when that was offered.

However, our kids are getting older and we'd like to be able to stay in a 1 bedroom for future trips (again via banking/borrowing, etc.)

We would like to do a 50 point add on. That will still, however, put us under the initial buy in price.

Are we able to buy our 50 points directly from Disney, since we haven't bought enough points for the initial buy-in, or do we have to go via resale for that reason? Buying from Disney would allow us to get the extension easily, we would avoid closing costs, they would be the correct use year, and we would have access to the points immediately (if I understand correctly), so it is an attractive option for us.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

One more question--

If we add on points, we would want them to be our current use year (August).

Does that mean points wouldn't be available for our use until August of 2011 if we buy them now?

Thanks!!

Chris

You can buy an add on direct, no matter how few points you own now. And you usually get the current year's points when you buy directly, so for August that would mean Aug '10 points.

Keep us posted!

Minimum add on through Disney is 25 points if paying cash and 50 points if you want to finance.

Of course, you can add on at any amount that you want as long as it meets the minimums.

I just did a 30 point add on in August and used my Disney Visa so that I could get the 6 months, 0% interest on my purchase (not to mention the reward points).

Good luck!

Thank you all so much! I really appreciate the info.

one final question--The add-on contract would be a separate contract, right? we are trying to keep our contracts in pieces so they are easier to leave to our kids later.

Thanks!

yes - whether you buy direct or resale, the add-on can be sold or willed separately down the road.

Yes; add-ons are always a separate contract that you can sell or allocate in a will, etc. to whoever you want independently of your other contracts. they are all just part of the same membership. I own two contracts that I bought @ VGC at separate times after I bought my master direct from Disney. However, I only get one bill for dues that lists them all, etc.

Yes, it will be xxxxx.3 or something like that, depending on how many other "parts" you have.

Do you get the 6 months, 0% even if you buy resale? That would be great for me now as I wait for my tax return.

No only direct disney purchases and WDW "vacation packages" are eligible for the disney visa 6 month 0 interest.

Maybe someone can help me out with this question, we have a 50pt direct purchase from dis at OKW extended contract that was added on to our master contract at SSR, same dec uy. We are now thinking of adding another 100 or 150pts to the OKW contract via resale with the same dec. uy but it most likely won't be the extended contract, will it matter that they have different expiration dates? Thanks

as long as the resale is titled exactly the same and has the same UY month, DVC should treat it like an add-on and put it under the same member number.

if DVC doesn't get the contract for ROFR before mar 20, you won't get the trade perk for those pts, though.
