This question has probably been addressed somewhere on the boards, but I couldn't find it.

If you do a small add-on say at AKV, can you sell your other, original contract at another resort, at any time? Thanks in advance for clueing me in on this issue.

I'm sorry, I should have added why we are considering this and get some advice from the experts out there. I just am never sure what will be deleted on the posts when mentioning "selling".

We are having some financial situations coming up. Our son has an overbite and more what I feel is an overjet (after doing Orthodontic research) and we know we are going to need funds to cover the cost of his work. Don't know how much it will be yet, but sure it will be a good penny since we don't have dental insurance.

Anyway.... what we were considering doing is selling our aver. size contract but adding a smaller one before we do that. It just is going to be hard to not be a member at all.

Or do you guys think we should sell now and then just buy a resale a little later since we won't be going to WDW for at least a year or maybe two? Hope you guys can give some insight.

My vote: buy the add-on while you are current members; then sell the original contract.

While you are a member you have two routes (direct DVC or resale) for purchase -- and both are easier to complete now compared to buying a smaller contract via resale as a non-member. A few considerations:
  • If buying add-on direct through DVC - there are no closing costs.
  • Buying the add-on direct through DVC - you'll have your choice of resort and # of points. The add-on comes with current year's points.
  • Buying a resale contract while a DVC member seems to ease the ROFR process somewhat.
  • Buying resale later will limit your choices of resort, point size and UY. You'll likely face a more stringent ROFR review.

Thank you soooo much. That was pretty much my thoughts but you enlightened me on a couple of points I did not know.
