We are just about to purchase the 120 points for SSR which is being offered with the free 100 points for one year. We will also have 120 points to bank. With this purchase there is no maint fee for the rest of the year and we realize this purchase is for 48 or 49 years. My question is this? Why are there so many people on the waitlist for a particular resort throught DVC when they could buy SSR. We get all that I mention above for $90.00 a point while any other resort is offered at $89.00. Is it just the 11 month ressie? Just wanted to know if I am missing something as I am about to purchase. We own at BWV and BC and will have another resort added to our list.

I did a BWV add on earlier this year. We usually travel during the busy times (spring break, F&W). So it was definetly for the 11 month window. I did not do that in the past with my add ons, and I now wish that I had. But if the 11 month window wasn't a factor, then it wouldn't matter to me where my points are. Points are points.

As you buy more contracts, the management issue becomes much more complicated. If you have different resorts on top of it all, the headaches can be tremendous. I sold my add-ons at the other resorts, and made sure that all BWV points are put on one contract, and OKW points are on the other. When I want another add-on, I stay within those guidelines. It's alot less confusing, even if I am not receiving the perks that SSR people are getting. The extra years on the SSR contract doesn't interest me, since I'll be dead before then! ;)

We have not done an add on yet, but plan to do one at BWV (our home resort). For us, the simplicity of having all of our points at the same resort with the same use year is worth more than the SSR incentives. That's probably because I'm an obsessive planner. :) I'd give myself a headache with all that 11/7 mos point stuff. Plus, we mostly want to stay at BWV, so I'd rather have all my points there!

I think the issues are generally the 11 month window, the ease of having all points at one resort/one use year, and the feelings people have about their "home resort." If you love the Beach Club and only the Beach Club, incentives to purchase elsewhere won't really matter to you. For example, there's probably a great discount out there right now if I buy a new pickup truck, but I'm shopping for a minivan, so the incentives don't interest me.

And the 11 month window is a biggie for me, especially at the "summer" resorts. When I want to stay at BCV in the summer, or especially at Hilton head, I want to be able to make that reservation and know that I'm one of the first to have a chance at that time of year.
