Ok, I guess I knew this day would come. I have 150 points, and I don't think it's quite enough. I would like to add on a small contract. Since I rarely see these posted on the DVC resale list, should I contact myTimeshare Store guide? Also, I have a September use year. Should I try for the same use year? How difficult is it to handle another use year with a smaller amount of points? Thanks?

Yes - contact your broker(s) and tell them what you want. Many of the smaller contracts never make it to the websites. They are sold via a phone call!

My advice is to keep the same use year unless you hve a compelling reason to do otherwise. Why keep track of separate contracts/banking deadlines if you don't have to? It certainly can be done - many here do it and report no problems doing so. But the chances of losing points or forgetting something are greater if you have different use yeasr. JMHO. YMMV.

You have a number of options, actually. Certainly calling TTS is a great place to start. Depending on which resort you want to add points for, resale may save you some money. At some resorts, it could save you a lot of money, depending on the size of the contract.

However, since you are already an owner, you also have the option of adding on directly from Disney. Sold out resorts are $89 per point and SSR is currently $87, although it is going up June 19.

You can add points through Disney in increments as low as 25 points (50 if you want to use their financing), and points are pretty much available at most resorts. BCV is tough for some use years, but most of the add-ons are pretty easy. You may have to waitlist for a short time, but nowhere as long as you will wait for ROFR, closing, etc. with resale. And of course, there are no closing costs buying direct.

If you are thinking of adding 100 points or so, you may want to take a close look at the SSR buy 120, get 100 free one-time points and no 2005 dues incentive. You can rent those 100 free points for $10 per and drop your cost to below $80 per point.

There is one thing to be aware of with a small add-on at a resort which is not your original home resort. That will give you the 11-month window at both resorts - but only for the number of points you have at each resort.

So, if you had 150 points at SSR, and added 50 points at Hilton Head, for example, you would have two 11-month windows, but unless you banked/borrowed, you would only be able to make 11 month ressies at HH for 50 points or less. At seven months, points is points - this only affects the 11 month window.

Another aspect, however, gives you additional flexibility. Assume 150 SSR and 50 HHI with the same use year. Your banking deadlines pertain to your total account - they are not by resort.

So - as another example - you could use your 150 SSR points, wait 'til the last possible minute, and bank all 50 of your HHI points. Why? Because 50 is 25% of the 200 total points you own, and you can bank 25% right up to ten months into the use year.

The other side of that coin, obviously, is that banking one resort could also preclude you from banking the other later on, so you'd have to watch your deadlines more closely.

Yes, you may still buy add-ons direct from Disney based on what others have reported.

You're an owner, aren't you. You have the same rights as everyone else. That's one of the great things about DVC. Anyway, it makes sense to add-on directly with Disney on smaller contracts. You can buy as much or little as you want, no closing costs, no ROFR, financing options on 25 or more points(?), etc.
