Add on direct (AKL)

Thank you all so much for all the advice, I will consider everything, but we have sort of drifted from my original question,

I will look into other resorts though as that's a good shout!!

One of the other draws to buying direct for us is financing it over 10 years, which means no lump sum, and small manageable payments, which although we have the money practically there, we still prefer the financing route

Thanks all

I was on the cusp of buying direct while on a cruise. All the one-time, limited time, price increase tactics if one recognizes them as such are not incentives, but just reflect price reductions required to move inventory and reflect the real "or Dinsey real" price of the product. We did not buy on the boat for a few reasons after sober second thought but did hit hard the resale route right after.

Two weeks later we had a 160 pt contract with a great price that took more than 6 months to settle but still at almost 1/2 what we would have paid direct. Here is a gas can thrown on the fire for those that hate financing - we chose a cheap personal means of financing accessible, for my $11K was earning more to us elsewhere. Anyone that has $10-$25K in cash lying around and no other debt including a mortgage, car payment, etc. are not in the same reality of virtually all the rest of the population.

Ironically a friend that introduced us to DVC (and an original Key West purchasers in the 90's) bought another 160 AKL points direct while down there on vacation the same week we had agreement on our contract (neither of us knowing what the other was doing). The difference, convenience, simplicity and speed in settlement for him but he will have paid in financing costs alone to Disney over 10 years what my entire purchase (including interest over 4 years) will cost me.

Resale is the way to go if:
  • You are not pressed to close by a defined time for any reason.
  • You can stomach the sales process, including rejected, refused offers, delays (and expect many) throughout the process.
  • You either have access to the $ required or a means of personal financing.
  • You can accept the minor restrictions Disney places against resales points.

Direct is the way to go if:
  • You simply want a defined payment and do not have the cash or a means or desire to seek financing elsewhere.
  • You just want to contact DVC and leave the details and effort for the transaction to them for the premium paid per point (if financing simplistically figure you will be paying 2-3 times more before you own the points free and clear).
