We made our first DVC purchase in April, 200 points at AKV.

We've used our 2009 and 2010 points for the trip we just took and the one we're going to take in January.

We're seriously thinking about adding on an additional 100 points.

I'm wondering how the add on contract thing works.

If we add on 100 points at AKV how does that affect our use year (Feb) and our ability to use those 100 points when we book.

What if we added on at another resort? Could we book 11 months out and use our 200 points at AKV toward that reservation?

Is there any difference adding on through a resaler then DVC besides the price?

TIA!! I finally understand the whole DVC thing and now considering the add on has me all confused again!!

If you add on through Disney, they will give you the same use year. It will appear under the same master contract number with a .## extension. You will get the points in your account almost immediately. If you go via resale, you will save a bit of money, but you will have to pay closing costs. It will go to Disney for ROFR (this can take 30 days), and after the closing it will take a week or so for the points to be in your account. If you get a contract with the same use year, it can be noted to appear under the same master contract number as your original purchase. The points you add on, if at a different resort, are the only ones that will qualify for the 11 month reservation; your AKV points will not be combined at the 11 month mark.

You need to compare the numbers between buying direct and buying resale.

For some reason people don't mind paying hundreds more to get their points ASAP so they buy direct. I guess I'm cheap, I always look for the best deal.

Thanks so much!! Your info was very helpful!

I don't need the points ASAP. I was looking at timeshare store and DVC by Resale and the prices looked great! I know the whole ROFR thing but if there's a chance I can get points at those prices I'll take a little chance!
