Dh and I are thinking about purchasing DVC. My dh has a question about smaller add on contracts. He wants to know if we have a large contract 160 or more at a resort like AKV and want to add on a smaller contract somewhere else, can we use all the points we have at the smaller resort where we bought our add on or do we only use the add on points. Also doesn't the add on get us an 11 month booking window at that resort?

Hoping you can understand what I'm asking and it's not confusing. thanks!:goodvibes

You can only use the number of points of each resort at the 11 month mark. If you have 160 at AKV and 25 at BCV, you can only use those respective amounts at the 11 month mark, not the total, 185. However, you do get 11 mo priority at that resort, but only up to the limits of the contract, not the combination of contracts.

ok...so let me get this straight. I can only use the add on at that particular resort? Well then how do you afford to stay anywhere with add on points? What is the reason behind add ons? I don't get it.

So let's say I have a 25 contract at BCV and want to stay there. I can't combined my larger contract of 165 at AKV to do that????  I don;t understand you can only use up to the add on points at the 11 month booking window? Oh my I'm gettin' a headache..;)

At 7 months out you can use your combined points anywhere you want (providing there's availability.) Between the 11 and 7 month timeframes, you can only book at your home resort up to the number of points you have available at that home resort.

Using your example, assuming you have your full number of pts available, you can use all 190 points anywhere that has availability on or after the 7 month mark including BCV. Before that, if you really want to book at BCV, you'll only be able to book up to that 25 home resort point mark. However, many people like to bank and borrow those coveted 25 home resort points so that once every three years they'll have 75 points to book at BCV at 11 mos out. IMHO, THAT's the beauty of small add-ons ;)

You have the opportunity to use up to 75 points at the 11-month window by banking all of this year's points into next year, and borrowing the points for year after next, as well. If you want a small add on at a second resort, the best thing to do is figure out the number of points you will need to have your desired vacation at that resort every other year, or every third year; and then figure out the number of points it will take to make that happen, using banking and borrowing. If it will take 92 points to do what you want to do, you can buy 46 points if you want to use that resort every other year, or 33 points for every third year (maybe losing one point's value every three years).

I get it!!!!:worship: The light has gone on. With the add ons, you're doing some banking and borrowing. You want to make sure that you purchase enough points in the add ons. Thank you so much!:goodvibes Now if I can only get dh to "get it":lmao:

I'm still trying to get a good handle on what use year would do to a banking/borrowing situation like this.

It might be worth trying to get a use year just prior to or on the month you want to use them in so you don't loose those banked points should anything go awry in the planning.
