As of now we'll be staying for 6 days in Dec @ Poly Club Level and have a 5 day discounted park hopper through my company (5 days is max). I figure the last day we'll skip the parks, relaxing at the monorail resorts/concierge, or going Downtown before the flight out.

I was thinking of extending the vacation another day but that would leave us with 2 without park Tix. Has anyone else had a good enough time in Disney without going to the park to justify the cost?

we are going 8 days and only have 6 day tix...we relax and enjoy the resort on arrival. and not worth it on last day unless you have very late flight....

Both times we have been we have built in a dedicated non park day. We sleep in (we're rope drop people), swim at the pools, walk around our resort, take the bus to Downtown Disney. For us, it is very relaxing. The Disney resorts are designed, in my opinion, to be destinations all on their own. I think you could find a lot to do on your day off. Plus, since you are staying at the Poly you could check out the other monorail resorts too.

Every year we go for 6 days and always make the day we arrive and a day in the middle a park free day. Just a day to enjoy the resorts and the pools.. Then normally do a dinner show at night.. Very relaxing to do!

We loved the mini golf and then Downtown Disney.....great way to spend a day...a good break from the parks!

We always build in what we call "Down Days" into our schedule. It is usually one down day for every three in the parks (tend to go for two weeks.) We take this time for DTD, visiting resorts to explore, spending a couple hours on the Boardwalk and Mini Golfing. There are other things you can do depending on your group. If you have young children, you might check out the Pirate Cruses or BBB. If just you adults, look into the spa or a fishing excursion on Bay Lake. I have also seen people at Port Orleans rent bikes to explore on. There really are lots of things to enjoy.

If you do the extra day, I would put it in the middle of your stay. We find that the day out of the park really helps to refresh us and makes us less tired the rest of the week.

I think there's plenty to do for 2 days without going to the parks, especially during the holidays :santa:. You could resort hop and check out all the great decorations at the different resorts, hit the resort shops, and walk around DTD where there is always something going on for the holidays :goodvibes.

There is definately plenty to do outside the parks. As you said, Downtown Disney is an option, my family also enjoys the Fantasia Gardens mini golf. Disneyquest is fun with the kids. You can spend an entire day touring the resorts and pool hopping. The Boardwalk at night is phenomenal. My dad and I enjoy the art galleries and golf. As I said, plenty of options.

A resort/pool day followed by a relaxing TS meal is a must for us!

Agree with everyone else here - you can easily have a couple days without the parks. In fact, I'm thinking of someday doing a non-park trip completely.
We are not rope drop people, nor are we at the parks all day, so we have no problem finding things to do. We actually never go to the parks on our arrival day or our departure day. You can resort hop, explore Downtown, walk around the Boardwalk, take out one of the boats, use the spa, golf, etc. I definitely think that's worth it :thumbsup2

Because we buy 10 day, no expiration park hoppers, we never go to the parks everyday. On off days, we make coffee, eat breakfast and lounge around the room lazily. The day might include walking around the resort, hanging at the pool, reading, an afternoon nap, and then to DD for shopping, drinks and dinner.

I took the plunge and went with the extra day. A little costly but I want to spend as much time as I can around Disney during Christmas season (always do summer trips). Thanks for the advice!!

We always have one non park day to be lazy or whatever and will always do it that way if possible :)

YES! My family loves spending time at our pool. We also love going to DTD. You could also go minigolfing. Both courses are wonderful! Maybe visit another resort for dinner/lunch.

and I must add, a relaxing day or two is great after a day you went to a park/wp. My legs and feet really hurt me and just sitting around relaxing just makes me so happy! ;)
