Add a day to tickets

I just want to clarify this and couldn't find a clear answer. If I am at the parks and want to upgrade my tickets in any way I only get credit for the price I paid, right? So if I buy tickets online I get a slight discount, even from disneyland.com. But if I decided I want to go an extra evening (like the day I get there), then I lose that discount to add a day regardless of the kind of discount it was.
That would make an extra penalty/discouragement to spending more time there. I understand from a business point of view to limit discounts, but it is one thing I wish was more like WDW's policy of bridging tickets.

You are correct in how you understand DL upgrades. If you're fairly certain you'd want the extra day, you should just buy that length of hopper online for the discount. Disney isn't trying to discourage people from staying longer, just encourage them to purchase more days up front by offering the discounts online.
