I'm not sure I'm spelling it correctly - adavan (like valium).

Any negative thoughts / experiences about it?

Ativan. It's a benzo, much more like Xanax than it is like Valium. Very good for short-term anxiety (i.e., getting on a plane or having an MRI). Nothing negative. It feels good!!! It can be highly addictive if used more than 3 weeks.

Ativan is a brand name of generic lorazepam. Used for anxiety, insomnia, sedation prior to surgery. I've never used it. High doses may lead to psychological or physical dependence.

I think that "addictive" would be a negative. Benzos are very addictive if used on a regular basis. They can also cause rebound anxiety.

I was on it for awhile. I never got addicted. People always think everyone is going to get addicted to everything, which isn't true. It helped for what I needed it for. Xanax probably would of been a better choice for me at the time but the ativan definetly helped calm me down.

I need to have some major dental work done -- my dentist recommended it for a one day deal. So I'm not worried about getting hooked on it. Just worried about taking it.

I totally wouldn't worry about taking it for a dental appointment. It would be great if my dentist offered it. I hate going to the dentist.

One dose is not a problem at all!

It was a godsend for me after my c-section and coming down off the epidural morphine. I had the shakes so bad I couldn't get any sleep after having been awake for over 48 hours. One ativan and it knocked me right out!

Powerful stuff though...I could see how it could be addictive awfully fast!

I don't know but if you give me yours I'll try them out and let you know how it goes. :faint:

I had a bad reaction to Ativan. I had majorly scary hallucinations, forgot who I was, and who my family was. Thankfully, it wore off after 4 hours with no lasting effect. Any major sedative also has the possibility of making your breathing shallow and low heart beat. That said I have a lot of allergies. Versed works for me. You could just take extra strength benadryl :)

Ativan is not really a "sedative" per se. It is an antianxiolitic (not spelling that right I know). It may make you feel sleepy, but it's not like Demerol or something like that. A very small dose should really help you out.

I have side effects to just about everything under the sun, but Xanax, Ativan, etc, really cause NOTHING for me and they help.

I remember when my son was having an asthma attack and we had to take him to the emergency room. He was just so freaked out. And then they kept wanting to give him an IV. He got himself so upset over it, he was almost vomiting. So, I finally went out to the nurses' station and said "You know, this is absolutely ridiculous that we are stressing this 6 year old kid out. Can you GIVE HIM SOMETHING?" It was like they were waiting for me to ask. In 5 minutes, she was back in the room with 4 tiny little Ativan tablets. He swallowed them and in about 15 minutes he was the most agreeable person you'd ever meet!!! :teeth: It never knocked him out or anything, he was just okay with everything.
