Adam and Katies 10/2/2010 SBP/Attic/?? ~ brainstorming!

my cousin had an at home reception where she rented and tent. I actually really enjoyed her wedding. If you want to PM me I can send you some pics. I say go for it. It was really fun :goodvibes

Thanks Hun! I'll send you a PM! :goodvibes I'm glad you found your cousins wedding fun.... i'm so afraid people will think its tacky.

I also say go for it! We are doing something very similar to this but like you I also worry about the weather (MI is rather unpredictable as well). I'm debating if I need to look into a back up location just in case the weather is horrible but then it's just more $$$$$$

I was looking into some back-up locations but like you said its just more $$$ so worst case senario we move it inside. :thumbsup2

I'm thinking about doing a candy bar table for the home party. according to theknot dot com they're soooo last year but i really don't care I love them and think they're so cute. Instead of a cake table we'll get cupcakes made in our wedding colors, and do they candy bar. Good Idea?

i think anything with candy is a good idea..and i think most guests would think so too

and honestly most guests are not going to know what was last year and what is in this year...it will be fun to them thats whats important

Thanks meghan! I told DF about the candy bar idea and he likes it! :goodvibes

Ok so a few quick updates:

This weekend i did, however, notice a slight problem with the whole renting a tent idea.... although our backyard is pretty large there are three trees in it that might not allow us to pitch a big enough tent. One of the trees is smack in the middle of the yard. So now i'm thinking we might rent a little tent just to cover the food and scatter the tables through out that yard. It'll be cheaperto rent a smaller tent and we wont feel horrible if we rent it and the day of the party it rains and we don't even get to use it. Anyone think it'll be wierd to only have the food under the tent?:confused3

I also started thinking about hair and make-up. I'm thinking of using patricia LeJune (hope i spelt that right) because of all the great feedback DISbrides have been giving her. It is worrying me slightly that i won't have a trial before the actual wedding day. Anyone else not having or not had a trial run?

I looked on her website and she is pretty reasonably priced, when i was going to have a home wedding i asked my hairdresser how much my hair would be and she said 85$ and i remember having my make-up done by MAC for a prom and they charged alot too. ( I don't remember how much exactly because it was 6 years ago) So i'm happy about her pricing!:thumbsup2 I noticed though that she does airbrush, traditional make-up, and mineral make-up and its all 60$ each. Which kind of make-up should I use? I have both traditional make-up and some mineral stuff but for a wedding (and a hot florida wedding) does it make a difference in what i would wear? What are you girls doing?

Oh and another thing i just realized on my way into work this morning (yea my vacation is over... back to real life :headache:) is that the next time DF and I have atleast a week of together will be the wedding/honeymoon :scared: Yea totally freaked me out.... if i wasn't awake before that thought ran into my head i sure as heck was after. :rotfl2:

Alright well i'm off to go get some work done since its my first day back. :surfweb:

So quick tiny itty bitty update!

DF and I worked out the numbers for both the Escape wedding AND what we were going to be spending on the original home wedding. We added up everything, dress alterations, hair and make-up, wedding bands, DF's tux rental, You get the idea. After adding everything together DF and I are going to be saving more than 5 Thousand Dollars. :scared1::woohoo: So the next time anyone has something to say to us about the escape wedding we'll just let them know that if they'd like to make up the difference we'd be happy to have a home wedding. :snooty: Lord knows they won't! :rotfl2:

Anyway so after we added all of that stuff up we added in the disneymoon and came up with a number. We estimated high to give ourselves extra money incase we upgrade anything during the wedding or decide to do some intense disney shopping. We took that amount divided it by 2 and then by the 64 weeks left until the wedding. We each need to save 70$ a week to come up with the total amount for the wedding and disneymoon. :thumbsup2 So yesterday I went to my bank and opened up a savings account that will automatically take out 75$ (i really want to shop and surprise DF with some tours on the disneymoon... shhh) from my checking account every week. :thumbsup2 Every now and then I also get bonuses at work and the occasional birthday money so i figure i'll throw anything extra into that account. :goodvibes I just need to make sure I budget myself really well. No more going out to eat when i dont feel like cooking... :guilty: and no more crazy home renovations for a while. Once the kitchen is done THATS IT! I have to admit though that when i got back to my car after leaving the bank i felt like a weight had been lifted, I know that i WILL be able to afford the wedding and will be able to pay up front, not put it on my disney visa and pay it later! :lmao:

P.S. If any escape brides already have their BEO and wouldn't mind sharing it i'd love to make sure DF and I are pretty close to accuarte. Feel free to PM me!

It sounds like you have an excellent money saving strategy. Awesome job!!!

And about a home wedding in New England. My brother and his wife got married at her family's home in Westport (MA? RI? I can never remember) on Columbus Day weekend. They had a big tent (because they had a big yard) and rented heaters and good thing they did...it was cold and rainy and dreary! But it was still wonderful and fun! (All that Jack Daniels didn't hurt either ;-) ) You can still have an amazing wedding even if it's wet or cold.

Sounds like you have everything under control money wise. :thumbsup2

I'm planning on using Patricia as well for hair and make-up. I'm not having a trial and am a little worried about this as well. I think what I will do is have it done at home and take pics. That way I can see what I like and what I don't. I think Patricia's prices are reasonable. I don't wear make-up daily so I am planning on using airbrush make-up. It sounds like it is long lasting and light. I've worn regular make up once or twice and it is so heavy that I'd want to claw it off...
I do plan on doing false eye lashes as well...just for a dramatic look. I'll only get married once and want something a little different...if that makes much sense.

Thanks! Its good to hear that i'm not the only one who'll be having a backyard reception. I've seen pictuers of them and some look so pretty and cute and others can look kind of trashy... so i just get alittle worried with what mine will look like. But the more i hear about the good the less i think about the bad! :thumbsup2

OMG I want the false lashes too!!! :rotfl2: And for ten bucks?! throw 'em on! I hate wearing foundation too... i agree that it feels wayyy to heavy and like its clogging my pores! :scared: YUCK! So i think i'm going to go with airbrushing too. I want that old hollywood Glam look... i just need to find some pictures of exactly what i want and i think Patricia can duplicate it for me. Her work is amazing!

i did the savings thing too! my only word of advise..if possible..make it a passbook savings...otherwise you may be tempted to dip into that fund when you need it for some sort of bill ...thats the problem i keep coming across:sad2: its so not fun..lol....although you probbably have more will power than me!

hahahaha :lmao: It will be tough but i'm going to make myself forget about the account as much as i can. I was soooo glad they could automatically transfer the money every week because that was what i was MOST concerned about.... "forgetting" to go transfer the money. :rolleyes1

I love her work as well. I'm going for something simple, classic and a little dramatic...I'm not sure what that means yet...but we will find out! :rotfl:

I second this. I can not move money too and from our wedding account unless I go to the bank to do so. It just makes it that much more of a hassle! So, I'll pay off something with my DV and get the points for it and then turn around and pay it off. :thumbsup2

YAY on the savings plan! Automatically deducting it is definately the way to go... that's what I've been doing- I do all my banking online and it goes right into an account titled WEDDING!!!! I refuse to go into debt over the wedding so I've gotta save all my pennies!

I plan to use Patricia too! I think her make-up looks super natural but still galm, I'm definately going with the air brush as I've read so many rave reviews about it. I also think I'll do the fake lashes... I just worry I'll rub my eyes and they'll fall off:lmao:

Hahahaha!! OMG I could totally see us rubbing the lashes off.... we're such classy ladies! :lmao:

:lmao: Thats too funny! We're pretty close to the beach. Only like a 5-10 min drive. We've been down Hampton Beach alot already. Its so fun! Skee Ball NEVER gets old.... well for me anyway.

So two really quick updates from work....

DF and I narrowed it down to two JP's that we really liked. Rev. Jack Day and Rev. Tim Herring. We e-mailed them both to get some general info so that we could see who we liked the best and hopefully book them by the end of the summer. Rev. Tim has gotten back to me alot faster then Rev. Jack and he has already answered alot of questions for us. Rev. Jack's email was kind of generic and just asked us to request a "jack pack" which we did. I'm sure he and rev tim get TONS of emails so i'm sure the whole generic email thing is just protocol but for whatever reason the fact that Rev Tim got back to us so quickly made me feel like he was more personable than rev. jack. This could obviously be totally false but just MHO. Anyone have any info on either one of them?

Ok so the other thing is that DF and I decided to change our wedding time... AGAIN! :rotfl2: After talking about it DF wants to know why we just dont get married at the 10:30 spot.... this bugged me because I asked him about the 10:30 slot and he said "No way i'm not getting up that early!".... he's a dope. He said he'd rather get married in the morning because neither one of us will be able to sleep the night before anyway(I already said that but he must have forgot:rolleyes1), and we could take everyone to lunch after which will be less money than taking them to dinner, AND we could still have the whole rest of the day in the parks with everyone. :thumbsup2 I'm also assuming that most people (unless having a park location) don't want the early morning slot because they need to be up so early to get ready.... so maybe that'll help us get the day we want... possibly.... :confused3

Alright well thats all for now... i better go get some work done... Talk to you girls later!

I'm waiting on my Jack Pack as well. He only took a day or two to respond. I've heard that he is usually a little laid back in responding. Not a brides ideal-but he delivers when the time comes. :goodvibes

Check and see who 'thatdisneygirl' had for her wedding...she had an awful experience...whom ever she had sent his wife/assistant to do the rehearsal and told them that if they didn't pay the balance that there would be no wedding. I don't remember who she had...I would double check. Super rude and unprofessional. :headache:

Like I said, double check-I don't remember who she had.

Good to know! I just went to her wedding TR and She had Kevin Knox. So we're in the clear on that. :thumbsup2 I read the same thing about Rev Jack. Some of his emails can be pretty generic and he takes a while to get back to you sometimes but that he does a great job when it comes to wedding day. :cloud9:

We'll see though, I want to see some sample ceremonies first.

Ok so i'm starting to get really really confused. :scared:

Confusion maker number 1

Df said to me last night that he was thinking maybe we should wait until the summer after we get married to have our at home reception. :confused3 So we'd be getting married in October and then waiting until june/july of 2011 to have our reception. I understand that he's afriad the weather won't be nice enough and stuff but that just seems like a Loooooong time to wait to have the reception. My suggestion to him was maybe moving the wedding up alittle but to like the second or third week in september so that it'll still be warm and sunny in New Hampshire. He was totally against it... i mean how much of a difference does a couple of weeks make? Then i thought well maybe we could move the wedding to Feb. of 2011 and then have a reception in May but idk... i'm so confused.

Confusion maker number 2

I went to my cousins b-day cook-out last weekend and my aunt cornered me and asked exactly what we were doing for the wedding. :scared: I told her that nothing was set in stone (liar!!!!!!!!) but that we were pretty sure we wanted to have a small disney wedding and then have a big party at our house after. She seemed ok at first and totally down with the whole thing. THEN she comes out with, "so I was looking at disney weddings and your escape wedding allows 20 people right? so i thought me, your uncle, and the kids could come down. If the kids are an issue we can just put them on the bus to the MK and your uncle and I will just go to the wedding ceremony" :scared1: WHAT!?!?!? I tried not to freak out and be ok with it but the more i thought about it the more than defeats the purpose of the SMALL wedding. I'm also going to feel terrible if all these people from my side go to the wedding and adam only has 4 people on his side. :guilty: My uncle is my god father and both he and my aunt are important to me and i'd like them to come.... but thats not fair to adam or other members of the family. Anyone else have this problem? Oh and how do i tell them that I want everyone GONE by Monday so we can have a honeymoon ALONE???

Confusion Maker number 3 (this is a fun confusion maker)

Where to have lunch after the ceremony? I looked into a few places and here are some that i like...

Kona Cafe
Olivias
Captians Grille
Turf Club Bar and Grille
The Wave
Grand Floridian Cafe

Anyone eaten at these places and have any input?popcorn::

Alright well i'm off to go try and make DF move the wedding to September.... hahaha

Katie, good luck on moving the wedding to September! We always travel to Disney then and it is so less crowded, we love it! Plus you can do free dining! Not that I am partial or anything since I'm having a September Disney Wedding!
