I'm a DVC member and I've always used my points to stay at the DVC resorts. I'm currently planning a trip for this coming June and was thinking of "saving" some points by paying for the Friday and Saturday night of the stay. I understand we get a discount but I was wondering if
1) is it worth it price wise
2) if you happen to know the estimated price (I'm looking at one bedroom villa at Beach Club)
3) should I just rent or borrow from next year if I'm short instead of actually paying

Thanks!

I'm not a DVC memeber and am not aware of your room discount rate...however, I just rented points from a friend. I got a 2-bedroom villa at BWV for 6 days, 5 nights (Sun-Fri). Out of curiousity I checked a 2 bedroom a BW online at Disney and the price difference was extraordinary in comparison to using points. If I were you I would check out how much it would cost to pay for the rooms and then check the renting/transferring boards to see what it would cost that way. Points usually rent for an average of $11 a point.
If you don't want to borrow points from next year, you may save more money by renting/transferring than paying for the room. Again, I was amazed at how much I saved.

You can figure out the price by going to the main WDW web site and putting in the dates, resort, and type of room you're looking for. Then, subtract your 25% discount.

You have to book this through Member Services to get the discount. They'll be able to link your points nights and your cash nights so you'll be able to stay in the same villa. If you're doing the Dining Plan, that will also be linked together.

Each night of your stay must be either cash or points. You can't mix the two on the same night.

Keep in mind though that the 25% discounted rooms aren't a guarantee. They're only available for room nights when DVC doesn't think they'll be able to fill the resort. I can't tell you what your actual chances of getting it are, but Friday and Saturday are more points for a reason -- because they're more popular.

The cost of a 1-bedroom villa in June at the BCV's is $495/night. You get a 25% discount being a DVC member, so that would be $371.25 plus tax for each night (742.50 for 2 nights).

To rent/transfer points at $10 a point, it would cost you $1,120.00 (56 points per night).

So....paying cash with your DVC discount is the way to go!!! :thumbsup2

I've done it in the past. I've used the member discount on Friday and/or Saturday night at OKW, 1 bedroom. At the time (3 or 4 years ago), it was around $320 with tax and I saved 48 points per night, so it was worth around $6.70 a point. I figured the cost of an add-on plus maintenance equaled about that and I didn't have the long term committment (I traveled with my mom at the time, she had cancer and I knew long term I would not need the additional points).

I believe in the past this made sense but if I am not mistaken Disney is varying the price of rooms based upon the day of the week like other hotels. This might result in higher weekend rates that would make this a less attractive option. I think there are too many unknowns to say for sure.

I'm low on points, so I'm paying cash through MS for Fri and Sat night during Premiere Season for a 1 bedroom at VWL (the nights would "cost" me 75 points each). The rate I'm paying is $442.50 a night before taxes.

It is worth it to me b/c I don't want to have to switch rooms mid stay.

We paid cash last year on the only weekend of our stay and didn't have to move from the 2 bdrm we shared with friends. We lucked out because we got an annual pass rate for the weekend for 40% off of our 2 bedroom, and we were able to connect the reservations and stay in our room.
