Activities Booking vs Online Check In

I noticed on the DCL site that our activities booking began today. I logged in last night and was able to secure a reservation for the one activity we’d been hoping for, but I was surprised to not see more as far as onboard activities. Is there more announced once onboard the ship as far as activities, character meet and greets, etc.?

I’d also seen somewhere on this forum that someone had mentioned booking character experiences during their online checkin? What type of character experiences? I’m so confused, I thought online checkin was more citizenship documents and whatnot.

Please help this lost first time cruiser!

Most onboard activities, including bingo, trivia, shows, classes (other than alcohol tastings), and most character encounters, do not require or permit advance reservations. These activities will be announced in the daily schedule on the DCL app once you are onboard. You just need to show up at the given location at or before the given time, although arriving a bit early would be a good idea in the smaller venues and for the more popular shows.

Adult dining, spa treatments, Bibbity Bobbity Boutique treatments, beverage tastings, Nursery times, shore excursions, Princess Tea/Olaf Picnic, and, if/when they resume, character breakfasts can be booked in advance.

There are a small number of character meets that can be booked in advance — in the past, these have included a princess gathering and a Frozen gathering, each with several characters in a line greeting guests. I haven’t sailed in the past few years, but I have heard that these meets are now booked at 30 days rather than when other online booking open.

Thanks so much, this is really helpful. As first time cruisers, would I be safe to assume our chances on the Wish are slim- to none that we'd have a chance to secure the special character meetings booked 30 days out, or are these available to all cruisers at that time regardless of their Castaway Club status?
