Hi, we're cruising next week with RCCL, not Disney, but these Boards are SO superior to RCCL's. Besides, we've done 2 Disney cruises in the past and will be back for more.

Anyway, we will be stopping in Freeport instead of Labadee, because of the unrest in Haiti. We do not wish to take any ship sponsored shore excursions. In Freeport, if you get off the boat and get a taxi, WHERE to go? I've heard about Lucayan Resort, but we do not want beach and snorkeling. Is there shopping there? Same with Cozumel...any fun things to do on your own?

Any tips from you veteran cruisers will be appreciated.

Was in Freeport last spring break on the Wonder. I have heard that the Lucayan Resort is beautiful and many people on the boards have recommended it. We did not go there as we had been at Atlantis. We did get a cab and go to the shopping area. Here's some information:

The cab is about $5 per person and takes about 1/2 hour to get there (we had 4 people, $20 ONE WAY)

The shopping area is similar to the straw market in Nassau -- not much really differrent IMHO

Going back -- this is interesting -- the cabs will NOT take you back until the cab is full. Some of the cabs are minivans (6 people) -- and the cabs only go in order. So if a minivan is first in line and a regular sedan type is behind it, the minivan goes first. Since we had 4 (not 6) we waited over an hour for 2 more people. Not good. Then another $20 to get back -- not including tips of course. We considered it a total waste of money.

People here will disagree and might be able to give you a better way. We were not impressed with Freeport -- at least at Nassau you can walk to the Straw Market and spend nothing if you chose not to. That, IMHO, is the advantage over Freeport.

There is a small, and I mean very small, "straw market" type of cul-de-sac right off the ship but it was really nothing to speak about.

Hope this is helpful :)

We did a Dolphin Encounter in Freeport which I loved. We booked it through Disney but it was with Unexso at http://www.unexso.com/

I enjoyed it very much...it was about a 10 min bus ride to the boat, then about a 10-15 boat ride to a beautiful cove where you learned about the dolphins, watched them play then you had about 5 minutes in the water with them....touching them, etc. They also offer a dolphin swim where there is a ton more interaction!

In Cozumel..we grabbed a taxi and went to Mr. Sanchos...we loved it.

Check it out at mrsanchos.com
