Activating tickets early? Recent experiences?

I have seen on this site before that you can activate your tickets up to three days before your package starts. On a recent unofficial Disney podcast I listen to (not Disunplugged) it was stated that the official policy is that this is not allowed. I was just wondering if anyone has had any recent success (or failure) in activating tickets early. We are going in November with FD and flying in the day before so staying room only that night. I'm hoping we can use the park tickets that day. Thanks in advance for any anecdotal evidence!

We just went last week. Our package started on Saturday, but we arrived early Friday for 24 hour day. Had no trouble entering MK with Magic band. DIL was the only one without an AP, and there was no issue at all.

It IS stated policy, if you call a "phone CM" and ask.
It has been that way for at least a decade.

However, when you get to WDW and ask at Guest Relations...
you CAN activate your WDW Resort Package tickets
up to three days before check-in.
It has been that way for at least a decade.

It was a part of the package. We did have the magic band for the stay, and the tickets attached to her were used upon arrival, a day before check in. As Robo said, Guest relations can help if there is an issue. We were lucky, just scanned the band, and walked in!
