Sorry, another AP question but I did several searches and couldn't find the answer. When you activate your AP for the first time can you do so on a block out day? Would you have to pay the $30 block out day fee? I thought I read about this last year and was really bummed that I could have gone on my actual birthday. TIA.

Yes, you can activate that day and you will not have to pay the $30 black out fee.

We've always bought a package (3 day tickets, get an extra day free) deal, and then upgraded to the APs at the end of our trip. Sometimes the package deals have some fun benefits (free trading pins, etc), and this way we could start our trips during blackout times. Normally I purchase the Premium, and the rest of my family have the deluxe (to maximize the discounts on meals and purchases).

I know when we considered upgrading mid-trip it was during a blackout time, and we were told that we would have to pay the upgrade fee the following day if we came in the park, but I don't remember them saying anything about the current day. That may have been since we were already inside the park with our park-hopper tickets. I'm sure someone here will know for certain.

That is correct, if you purchase your a/p (either in full or as an upgrade), and the next day is a blackout you would pay the fee for that blackout day. The perk of using it on the black out day ONLY applies to the day of purchase/ activation, not the surrounding days.

I upgraded on a black out day. I was able to use it that day. However, it was backdated to the first day that my hopper was used. I had to show my receipt at the gate when we hopped, so they would know I had just upgraded that day, and the blackout didnt apply.

We activated our AP on Dec.26th - a black out day. It worked great. It was a horrendously crowded day, but we enjoyed the Christmas decorations - our whole point of being there at Christmas. We even popped over to CA adventure without a problem. :santa: Hey, this is my first post as an AP holder - yeah! What an awesome year this will be :dance3:
