Acknowledging a raise at work...is there protocol?

The small company that I work for has been hit hard in the last couple of years due to the economy. Staff has been cut, departments closed, store locations closed, and no pay raises in a few years now.

Recently there's been a big change in the small department that I work for. I've been given a lot more responsibility (work), that has always been handled by manager who has a college degree in a specific field (which I don't have). I'm doing an excellent job with it, and while my good work has been verbally acknowledged, I thought that I earned and deserved a pay increase.

There are other contributing factors that I don't want to mention here, mainly because I've referred co-workers to this site for planning their Disney vacations, and so I just don't know who might be reading this. :surfweb:

Long story short, last Thursday I was given a 20% pay increase. :yay:  :woohoo:

My question is, is there a protocol as to whether I should acknowledge my raise to anyone other than the HR person who informed me of the raise? Should a small hand written card be given to the executive who personally made it happen, and/or to the two other people who backed up my request for a pay increase? This is the first time that I've been given a performance raise when nobody else in the company has gotten one, so I don't want to seem unthankful, if in fact, I should write a "thank you" card. :confused3

P.S. Sorry if this post doesn't make total sense because I've taken my nighttime medication and I'm getting drowsy. LOL :cloud9:
:faint:

I would think that a verbal to the exec whom authorized it would be fine. I don't think a written note would be necessary.

IMO as an HR chick - No acknowledgement is necessary. As your post stated you earned this and your employer "thanked" you with the pay increase.

If the company is small to the point that you work with the owner then I would say thanks to them privately but from the way you described it sounds like you asked for a raise, a manager went to bat for you and you got the raise.

Congrats BTW that is a really nice "Job well done" acknowledgment

Yes, I think it would be nice to write a short note to the executive that made it happen and a verbal thank you to the two that backed up your request. A thank you is always appreciated and also remembered. Since the company isn't in a great place and they gave you a generous increase, I think it would be a good idea.

Congrats!
