Ack! I almost couldn't get home tonight. :(

Went bowling with a couple of friends tonight ("Extreme bowling" -- from 11 until 2, they have black lights on and play loud (and obnoxious :/ ) music -- pretty cool, other than the obnoxious music). Didn't get home until almost 1:30 and DH was in bed. Well, put my key in the door -- it wouldn't go in! I could *NOT* get my key in the lock no matter what I did! Luckily DH hadn't locked the back gate (just closed it) so I was able to get in the back door. And if that hadn't worked I could have *tried* the phone. But DH didn't hear the doorbell at all and I'm not sure he would have heard the phone. Oh, and of course, as I was trying to unlock the door, the porch light burnt out on me :p Good thing my friends waited to make sure I could get in. I might have ended up spending the night at their apartment if the back door hadn't worked. (DH is notorious for ignoring the phone or doorbell, especially if he's asleep) Though I guess I could have knocked on the bedroom window until he woke up...

Now I'm wondering if we need to get a locksmith to come out and fix the lock (DH's key got stuck, too -- tried it when I got in) or if we just need to apply some WD40. I'll probly have my dad come out to check it tomorrow -- he'll know which way we need to go. The problem is the key would go 3/4 of the way in, but no further. This key used to work on the lock with no problem.

Glad you got in. I've often wondered if something like that happened to me, if I'd be sleeping in my car. Everyone here sleeps so sound except me and maybe oldest dd sometimes. I'd have to probably bang on their windows, scare them to death and then maybe I'd be able to get in.:D

If it's worked fine up until now, the WD40 might be what is needed. The last place I lived had a lock like that. Every so often my key would start to have trouble going into the lock but a squirt of WD40 fixed it right up.

Tammi, I'm glad you made it in.

a locksmith told me..NEVER use wd40 in a lock..it gums up the works..use powdered graphite instead..usually comes in a little tube..just squeeze it in..or squeeze it on your key and insert your key and turn..might take a couple of tries ..but works!

Okay, got it fixed. My dad had a spray that wasn't WD-40 but worked the same without gumming the system up and one squirt of that took care of the problem 100%. :)

And you thought it was dangerous within the LOOP, LOL. I'm glad you were able get into the house finally. Hope the locksmith can get the lock fixed or replaced soon.

Rajah, what was the name of that stuff. We're sticking here, too. Must be the humidity. :)
