Yikes! I guess I'm lucky that our carpet should survive. It's wet for a few inches across the doorway to the furnace closet. Replacing that carpet would cost $$$$ because it's the main hallway, right off the whole living room. EEK.
..hey OP I'm in NE Ohio and we had a new gas hot water heater installed last year for 675, it's a 40 gallon too. I got credit for it on my taxes cause it was energy star rated so not sure why your guy is telling you you can't get the credit...unless they changed it from 2009 to 2010
LOL, it IS worse (the furnace went less than a year ago, and we are still paying for the new one). Our gas bill is NICE now, though...at least, as nice as NE Ohio winter gas bills can be, lol.
Well GEEZ. Noticed last night that the hot water won't even last for 1 BATH (in a small tub). Was going to see if the installers had the temp set too low, so opened the utility closet. The sizzle sound is worse than it EVER was with the old tank. I peeked where the door is (that you open to light the pilot light) and can see water in there. I think there's a problem!!
Just called the company who installed it, and they will be here in about an hour. Is it just me that has problems? The furnace installation took several days, and now this.
ETA: they came. Need a new hot water tank. So sitting home for a THIRD day, tomorrow, while the HVAC people come for the 3rd day in a row. Is ti ALWAYS so aggravating? Or is it just MY luck?
For the government's tax credit, they told me it has to be a tankless one...which would run me triple the cost. Wonder if there are other rebates out there??
I think some regular gas units also qualify for the credit. I wanted tankless gas and was told I couldn't meet code. Then got the same story for a regular gas unit. I was very disappointed.
Had to buy a regular electric unit. None of them qualify for the credit. It was under $500 at Lowes with a 12 year warranty. Can't remember if it's 40 or 50 gallons. We did the installation. I think their price for installation was $189.

Yeah, I looked it up. Would have cost a LOT more, to get not much of a credit (we used most of the credit for the new furnace we had to buy in 2009.)
The company came back today, and put another new water heater in. This one doesn't seem to have any water leaks inside, luckily, lol.
Seriously, though, sitting at home THREE days in a row to get a new hot water tank stunk. Now crossing fingers the fridge behaves (and the dishwasher -- it makes some SCARY noises too, lol)
