Ack! Animator's Palate knife on eBay!!!

I, too, am REALLY disappointed that by the time I cruise on the Dream (in late Sept), all of these neat little items will either have been stolen or DCL will stop using them in order to stop the thievery.

I know that people may have the attitude that they paid plenty for their cruise, and that they're only taking "one little thing".....but when that many people are of the same mind, it adds up.

Rude, inconsiderate, and ILLEGAL.

Stace are you on the Sept 25th? If so maybe we will cross paths and say hi

I didn't know I could "buy" 1...I would have done that too.

You'll have to tell me how/where you'd get the name added (if you don't mind) :)

Check your local phone book, there are probably a lot of places that do embroidery. I did it with my kids' Christmas stockings, and have done a lot of other things. Wish I were handy enough to do it myself. :guilty:

:eek::eek:
Man, I just don't think this would have happend 50 years ago, can you imagine people doing this on the Titanic? Honestly, I believe people think they are entitled in this day and age to so much more than life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness...when the pursuit of happiness succumbs to theft and 'me first'...we are in for a sad sad world. I will add, I would be thrilled for them to scan my luggage/purse/carryon at the end, if they find any knives/etc...fine the heck out of the ones who do it...surely they can see knives in a handheld scanner!!

I used to help my grandparents wash and reuse foil, ziplock bags, pie tins, etc...:laundy:...It was wonderful, I was able to bond with them (they are in :cloud9: now, I miss them ) and appreciate the simple things in life.
And 50 years ago, we didn't have the internet, cell phones, e-bay. We had people in trench coats selling stuff that "fell off the back of the truck".
Unfortunately I agree with you, they have become more savvy.
We will be going on our first WDW/DCL/Florida experience EVER! I wonder what's going to be left too, I hope it won't be "it's just a dream...:headache:...it's just a dream..."

It is disgusting. I spoke with my travel agent on the phone recently, Her boss was on the Maiden voyage and she was on the next one. Between them they say knives and menus being stolen, knobs from dressers being removed and stolen, and even floor tile pryed up from the elevator floor and taken:scared1: I honestly cannot undersatnd how anyone can act this way:sad2: I really wish DCL would go after such people--including removing them from the cruise when caught and not letting them sail again. If it stops being profitable, idiots will stop doing it and the rest of us can enjoy our cruises.

We have Maiden Voyage menus but they were printed to say so and our server and head server told us there were specifically for souvenirs.

Speaking of pepper shakers...do you think people are dumb enough to be stealing the ones from AP too?? It honestly sucks to think that we may not ever see these things in person because people are stealing them. :sad2:

The interesting thing about those salt and pepper shakers are we see them constantly at the Disney Outlets and even own a set ourselves that we bought a few years ago. Sad to think people would steal rather than go buy! But then again, we saw it happening on this cruise...

That was definitely different, and of course, that's what DCL wanted people to do.
And I guess, once they're yours, they're yours....it still seems wrong somehow, to see them being sold on eBay.
I personally only want mementos of trips I've actually taken.

I am in two minds about this. Firstly, if it is stolen it should not be sold - end of. However, if it was purchased by an employee - what can they do? They have legally purchased the item, thus making it theirs. (Disney also makes a good mark-up with the cast discounts) You find a ton of stuff online being sold by employees, and nobody seems to mind. I don't see a huge problem with it TBH.

What I do find disturbing is the amount of things stolen by guests - now that is really what hurts the company. People taking more toiletries than they need and taking them home, people taking menus from the eateries, people taking towels etc. I know that for a while the original ships were replacing around 100 towels a month, each, due to them disappearing. I have also heard that the Dream is having problems with thefts - pillows, plates and surprisingly - the Mid-ship Detective Agency cards!

Well, I have to say, it didn't occur to me to NOT take the Detective Agency cards! We used them all week - had put the kids names on them, and they do not say on them to return. We assumed they were a consumable. My kids brought them home as a souvenir. I would never take something that is clearly not meant to be taken!

I think that was expected - the problem is that people are taking lots, same with the pencils.

This is just sad! :( I read some of these posts to my family and DD10 said that it is going to be those stupid people's fault that she doesn't get to see one of those cute knives when we go on the Fantasy next year.

I really hope that I can bring a photograph of these knives home with me as a momento of our dining experience at AP. The knives are cute, but not so much that I would make myself a thief just to have one. :snooty:

Now, if some of the new items are going to be available for sale - I'll buy them in a heartbeat. ;)

On our first cruise in 2008, the propeller clock in our stateroom had a price tag on it, so if we wished to purchase, we could.

Remember the first part of that saying, "Take nothing but pictures..." I wish!

Spoke w/ my TA last week... she went on the 2 or 3 day cruise for TAs, press, etc, and also on the Maidan Voyage. She said she was VERY DISHEARTENED and EMBARASSED by others on the MV. :headache: She was SHOCKED :scared1: as to the behavior and yes, what people were stealing, and how quickly things went on ebay. Even the purses... people lined up hours before store opening, and w/in 10 minutes of purchase, they were on ebay! :scared1::headache: One guy even pulled some Mickey head off the wall near the elevators!

She said she will NEVER go on a Maiden Voyage again! It was unbelievable! and very sad too. I haven't even seen a pic of these knives that do sound cute... to have one or two, but LEGALLY!

Maybe DCL should save some of these smaller magical items until after the 1st month or so but not say anything, then pull them out and then, SURPRISE to the cruisers. It would catch the sticky hands off guard, and they would just have to keep spending their $$ in hopes of making $ off stolen goods because they would not know when these items would be launched/brought out for cruisers to enjoy!

What's also sad is these "thieves" are parents, too. Nice example to show your kids. :rolleyes2

This is shocking. People are actually vandalizing the ship in order to sell ill begotten ship's property on Ebay? What kind of Disney fans are these? (

Now, I have a capitalistic nature myself but I don't depend upon vandalism and theft to make a buck. And I usually end up giving away Disney stuff rather than selling them. (Gave some of my precious ... my precious ... pins at Christmas to somebody starting off their pin collection. )

I can believe people pocketing a knife but I cannot believe that people were destroying the ship. That absolutely stuns me.

I just checked the link, and the auction is now closed with 0 bids....don't know if this thread helped with that or not, but at least they didn't make money off of it (and the probably still had to pay the ebay fees!) :cool1:

Interesting. Earlier today, it had 2 bids on it. I wonder if he got tired of all the crap he was getting from Disphiles who prefer their ship intact that the cancelled the bids and then closed down the auction.

Out of curiosity I looked at the new Dream Dooney's on ebay last night. One lady was advertising them as only available on the first sailing and saying you could no longer get them. I reported her to ebay for false advertising. I wonder if she really believed this or if she is intentionally misleading people.

Many in line thought this. The Inaugural items were not selling as quickly as the MV items. Many cruisers on the MV were returning so only wanted MV items. A few said if they knew the purses would be available all year they would not have stood in line.
So no need to panic over the bags. I expect to see them at the Character Premiere outlet in November with all the other 2011 merchandise.

I had asked the seller of the knife about a CM being able to sell an item bought from the CM's store.....and she/he had an explanation that there is some kind of form that they would sign at the register, there were some items (like Hummels) that they cannot sell, but other items are okay.

I'll have to ask my friend who is a CM, about this.

Um, no .....
