Ack! Animator's Palate knife on eBay!!!

I was on a cruise two summers ago, and it was raining on embarkation day. I didn't notice the DCL busses, because I was too busy trying to keep my lap top bag dry....but we didn't have ANYONE try to cut the line to get under the cover. People complained, but they went to the back of the line.
:confused3:confused3:confused3

Maybe the whole "Maiden Voyage" thing just made people lose their minds and manners???

That's what I'm thinking too Stace. :sad2:

From what I have read online Disney tends to not charge people for missing items. I hear stories about those iHome radio's often walking away and no one ever being charged.
DCL should use printed notes, like they did for the stateroom propeller clocks, saying:
"The xxx is for your enjoyment while onboard. If you take it, your shipboard account will be charged $yy."
Woody

They DO have a note on the laundry bags that says if you'd like one, your stateroom will be charged $5 for it. My friends thought they were cute, and they're nice cloth bags, and great to take home smaller dirty items, so they were willing to pay the $5.

Disney does this all wrong. There is a hotel in Manhattan that we stay at, really swanky, really nice stuff. The sign on the door says that EVERYTHING in the hotel can be taken and you will be charged for it (even the faucets and shower head!). There is a number on it to call if you want to take some of the big items such as the furniture or mattress (ick a used mattress??) or the attached items such as the shower head. Since they don't want patrons damaging the walls moving these items, they send someone up to bring them out. I ended up taking the teddy bear from the bed and this really neat cube picture frame. I think they charged me $30 for each. In order to stay there you must have a credit card on file. The maids go through the room with a checklist like an old school minibar to see what you have taken. The key is that they dont tell you the price of anything. A charge just magically shows up on your credit card a few days after you check out.

Disney should really install that policy. Think of the revenue! I want a DCL towel and that knife too. They could charge me $30 for each and I would be thrilled!

1/3 of the knifes have disappeared. :scared1:
We got told during presentation on board.
They are going to stop using them, if they cant keep them!

Peter

wonder how many of the red bed pillows disappeared?

2 summers ago they didn't have ships that hold 4000 guests. I don't think they were prepared for such huge amounts of people the Dream can hold.

I've been to CC 3x since they "expanded" it for the new ships. It felt just right so I can't imagine almost double the # of guests there.

The number of people waiting to board has nothing to do with it. You could have 10,000 people waiting in line, in the rain, and there would still be NO EXCUSE for cutting the line.

Yes, that's true but if DCL was prepared for 2,000 more people, no one would be waiting outside in line at all, rain or shine. I've never had to wait outside and we've arrived at various times on our cruises.

This is just sad! :( I read some of these posts to my family and DD10 said that it is going to be those stupid people's fault that she doesn't get to see one of those cute knives when we go on the Fantasy next year. There has to be something DCL can do to stop people from taking these and other things. They could put a chip inside of the pillows at least. Wouldn't that surprise a few thieves? The worst thing is that DCL put a lot of time and money into taking care of these kinds of details to make our cruising experience special and in a very short time relatively few people are going to deny the majority of guests from enjoying that experience.

If you arrive so early that the gates aren't open, you WILL wait in line, regardless of how many people are boarding.
And I have a feeling that for these first "special" cruises on a brand new ship, there were people waiting long before the gate was open.

If it's cool, and it's portable, easily stowed and not available anywhere else, then yes, people are going to steal them.

Unfortunately it's going to mean that the items will end up being replaced with less desirable ones, as DCL is not going to want to continue replacing them ad infinitum.

If someone takes the red pillow from their stateroom they should be charged for it.

Totally agree. :thumbsup2
I remember before our first Disney cruise (2002) seeing pictures of Animator's Palate, and the neat tray with bottles of chocolate & caramel sauce that you could use to "decorate" your ice cream.....and then being disappointed that DCL no longer used those.
Granted, they probably quit using them because they were so messy....but still....I'd seen pictures and wanted to see them in person.
And it will be the same thing with the little touches like the knives and the pillows.....everyone will have seen pictures or heard about them, yet thanks to people with sticky fingers, a lot of people will probably never get to see them in person.

This makes me both deeply sad and extrememly angry to know that people have no respect for the ship. I hope Disney can take matters into their own hands and get back some of these items.

On the other hand, I think Disney would be making a really good decision if they decided to start separately manufacturing and selling some of the knives, plates, pillows, etc. for purchase both on and off the ship. White Caps could easily sell them!

Disney should make some of these items available for sale. I know my wife would like to buy one of these butter knifes! I believe I saw an AP plate too somewhere on ebay!

I believe there were some on board that were there strictly for what they could steal or buy for resale. Take the D & B bags for instance. Several walked out with the max purchase!

My sister called guest services and had them charge her account the first day because she liked it so much. We are going to have her name embroidered on it, so she can use it on future cruises and prove its hers! :rotfl:

I would definately buy one of the stateroom pillows if they were offered for sale.

I was just searching on eBay for Dream DCL stuff and saw this! I had read in other posts that people had stolen some from AP. I can't believe that they'd be dumb enough to sell them on eBay! Unbelievable!!!!! :sad2:  Mods, please remove the link if it's not supposed to be posted. Thanks!

This makes me SO ANGRY!!!! I cannot believe that people have so little class that they would be STEALING from the ship!!! Grow up people! Nice example you are giving to your children. Grrrrrr!

It is disgusting. I spoke with my travel agent on the phone recently, Her boss was on the Maiden voyage and she was on the next one. Between them they say knives and menus being stolen, knobs from dressers being removed and stolen, and even floor tile pryed up from the elevator floor and taken:scared1: I honestly cannot undersatnd how anyone can act this way:sad2: I really wish DCL would go after such people--including removing them from the cruise when caught and not letting them sail again. If it stops being profitable, idiots will stop doing it and the rest of us can enjoy our cruises.

I was on the MV and we were given the menus from the 3 restaurants as they all had "Maiden Voyage" and the dates on there...so they couldn't be used for any other sailing. That being said, I am also blown away by everything that was taken. I joked w/ my server (whom I'm known since 2008) & told her that I wanted the Royal Palace bread bowl & the AP bread knife, but there is no way in the world that I would steal them.

I really hope that DCL will monitor Ebay (and any other auction sites) & do something about the people that have sticky fingers.

I agree - I would have gladly bought the RP bread basket/bowl, the AP bread knife & the Pillow if they had been up for sale.

I didn't know I could "buy" 1...I would have done that too.

You'll have to tell me how/where you'd get the name added (if you don't mind) :)

While on the Panama crossing last month I was eating breakfast at the Buffet. I was looking at the water and noticed a guy stealing the salt/ and pepper shakers. No Disney anything on them. I watched him the whole time. I reported it to mgmt that he was stealing but they didn't care. I did walk up to the guy and say something. Not a good example for the children on board. It did make for great jokes at dinner that he probably has a service for 12 in his luggage....:rotfl:
