Acid Reflux/Gerd diet advice

Apple cider vinegar is your friend. Avoid spicy, dairy, eating too soon before lying down, etc...

She is on medication, again. We've finally gotten her to give up caffenated beverages. That was tough. The things that people are mentioning are some of her favorites: yogurt, vanilla pudding. It is funny how the things that she craves are things that you are mentioning. I'm going to try to get her to enjoy more yogurt. No ice cream. She loves ice cream, but it makes her cough. Related to Gerd?
Thanks!

My cough was actually how I got diagnosed with acid reflux. I have no other symptoms, and have never had any other symptoms, but as it turns out GERD presents at times as just a cough, too. I had pretty bad vocal cord damage by the time it got diagnosed--no one expected it.

As for foods...I'm not a good GERD patient to ask, because I haven't had to give hardly anything up (maybe because my only symptom is a cough). Make sure she's taking her medication. I find that I can eat almost anything I want as long as I'm on my meds, but it'll really be up to how she's feeling. Tomatoes are my killer food, which is really too bad because they're also my favorite. I can have them on occasion without any trouble, and I've found that fresh uncooked is better than in a sauce of any kind--I can eat raw tomatoes most of the time without a reaction, but cook them and the coughing starts. Really greasy stuff also sets me coughing like no other--there's a breakfast skillet at a restaurant in town that I have to avoid now because all the greases from the meat has me coughing for days. It's just not worth it to me. Caffeine, though, has no effect on my GERD, and I don't have to avoid much else in order to feel okay. YMMV.
