Brother's G/F: Ali. Is she ready for a week with us all?
As it states above, I have loved Disney for as long as I can remember. One of my best memories of my childhood, is of my 5th birthday at Disneyland when Alice in Wonderland snag Happy Birthday to me and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I can't even guesstimate the number of times I have been to DL. But WDW was always out of reach for our family(too far, too expensive). I joined the Air Force and received assignment to North Carolina. In '99 we decided it was time to make the trek to WDW. Contacted my family to invite them and they all jumped onboard. Such a great trip we did it again a year later. I could see it becoming an annual event, but the Air Force had other ideas. I was transferred shortly after we returned from the second trip, to Texas. So WDW took a backseat for awhile. In Spring of '01, we got the itch again, so we booked for a May'02 trip to SOG for a week. Again everyone jumped on, this time to include my brother's girlfriend. So it was set, or so we thought.
The events of 9/11 threw everyone's lives into a spin, and of course as a member of the military, we knew our lives would be turned upside down. We had no idea of what would happen next, let alone if our trip could still take place. The time was rough, but we got back on track. We kept our trip planned as scheduled and moved on. The months rolled on and the trip inched closer.
The original plan was for SOG from May 3-10. Our two previos trips had been to SOG and we absolutely loved it. But then Disney released its "Armed Forces Salute". Now SOG is a nice money saver for us in the military, but the Disney deal was unbelieveable. So I jumped on the phone to CRO to find out all I could. After much planning and deliberating, we decided to push the trip up a couple of weeks so we could take advantage of the deal. So the new plan was for Apr 24-30. But since the deal was so good, we added on a 7th night. So all-in-all, here is the deal we got. Free 7 day Park hopper for me, and half off for the rest of the group (7day UPH), and 2 rooms at ASSp for 7 nights each for $49 per night. So right off the bat, we immediately saved hundreds of dollars for us and our family members. So all was set once again.
Meanwhile we debated on how to get there. Previous trips we had driven from NC, but the drive from TX was a lot bigger. We loved having the car with us, but did we want to take that big of a road trip. My brother and his g/f work for America West Airlines, so he convinced us just to fly with them. We had previously done it with other trips, and it is a great money saver. We basically fly for free when accompanied by one of them. He was not able to come pick us up in Dallas, but he gave us some passes, where our airfare was about $120 each for round trip from Dallas to Las Vegas(where they live). We planned to fly out of Dallas on Sunday night Apr 21st, and stay at my mom's. We would then fly out of LV at 12:35 am to Orlando. But that flight filled up so we altered our plans, since we fall into stand-by status. New plan (again?) was to fly out of LV at 12:40AM to Columbus, then to Orlando arriving at 10:30 am. Transport from airport to ASSp was booked with Yourride, so we updated Rabbitt of our schedule change and were set once again.
