Accuracy of "measuring sticks"

Make sure you teach the kids how to be measured properly especially if they are right at the height requirement. Feet together, and feet back so the heels are against the stick. Chin up and head back against the stick.

Our DD4.5 measured 40 inches at home with normal sneakers which were the sneakers we were taking with us to WDW. First we had her measured at Space Mountain on the first day of our trip and there was no question that she was a hair too short to ride. Then a day or two later we measured her for Mission Space and she again was a little too short.

On our last day of our trip, she insisted on being measured for Expedition Everest. There was a measuring stick off to the side so you could check the measurement yourself and she bumped her head on it and was so excited but DH told her not to get her hopes up because we needed to get an official ok from a CM. She measured tall enough by the CM at the end of the line and again just before boarding, bumping her head on all three measurements. The height requirement on all three rides is 40 inches and she had on the same pair of sneakers.

How in the world was she tall enough for Everest which has a 44 inch height requirement, but not any of the 40 inch rides? I can see someone who is right at 40 inches being able to ride some rides and not all of the 40 inch rides, but I don’t see how it is possible to be turned away at multiple 40 inch rides and make the requirement for a 44 inch ride.

Aww, you sound like a great parent! (Not sarcastic; I genuinely love that you did this.) I was in exactly the same position as your daughter, and I always wished my parents would let me wear taller shoes, not to beat height requirements, but just to help with the bullying. (Alas, I went to a Catholic school whose uniform requirements didn't allow "excessive shoe height.") I'm an adult now and never did catch up with my peers height-wise, but hopefully your daughter will have better luck than me in that department.

Thank you! I am pretty short, too, and always have been. However, I don't remember it being a problem for me in school ~ I think it was b/c my best friend growing up and I were the same height. So there was always someone who was as short as me. My husband is pretty tall, so there is a chance she'll sprout up...but I'm not holding my breath!
