accomodation horror.

We get used to the excellent quality of accomodation available in orlando. Although I tried to tell them it was a long way, some friends of mine thought it a good idea to do a trip to key west from orlando. They stopped overnight past Miami, did the keys the following day & were returning via Naples. It was very late & they got so tired after driving forever, they pulled into a motel not realising it was in a somewhat rundown area. The owners certainly saw them coming & they paid $75 for each room, in which they actually stayed the night, they were so tired. I had to laugh when they described the rooms, which were filthy! Grime city. Everything was dirty & worn out, the sheets were see thru. They were frightened to straighten out their legs in the beds in fear of what was lurking at the bottom!
It sounded like the type of room rented by the hour! The "Bates" motel would be luxury by comparison.
They survived to tell the tale anyway. Any horror stories like this?

Where exactly was this motel?? Can't believe it was in Naples . . . the residents there would never allow anything less than a four star on their doorstep It's a beautiful area.

I'd always advise people in this situation, to look for a hotel chain they recognise. Comfort Inn, Howard Johnstone, Red Roof Inns or Holiday Inn and try to find a hotel BEFORE you're so tired you can't go on. If you're on motorway you will get signs before each junction telling you what hotels, restaurants and gas stations are located at that exit.

Yep!
On our first holiday we did one week orlando,then onto st petes,then onto naples then onto miami!
My god,we drove to miami,we booked this all through virgin going off there word,all hotels was nice etc.
Well the first 3 was!
But miami was disgusting this was "bates" hotel if you ask me.
We pulled up to a "dodgy" looking lad,stood there,he told us to go inside where we checked in,it was filthy.
We was then told all car keys had to be left behind the counter as the car park was too small to hold all the guests cars,and they would have to move them etc so everyone would park up.

Then we unloads ours bags and walks through to the pool area, there was a young small boy weeing in the childrens pool which might i add was covered with cig butts and bottle tops! needless to say DD never went near to it!
There was one side of the hotel which was covered with drug dealers,and prostitutes.

My brothers wife mother couldnt get in her room,as the lock had been tampered with, as we walked into our room,there was a small dirty fella hanging out of the air conditioning hole,he them put paper over the hole and proceeded to tell us we will have no air conditoning...he then santered over to brothers wifes mum with a tin of wd40,and squirted the lock then got a set of keys to that room out of his pocket! i could of cried.

Then as this is all going on,some guy comes out of my brothers room,so brother runs in,and he had had a wee,and weed all over the seat and floor it stunk!

That night we got dressed and went out,it was vile,when we got home it was bedlam,there was prostitutes hanging around,and weird men,etc. it was something you would of seen in a dirty movie! i felt sick,we had no virgin person there to see,it was diabolical.

The beds was disgusting,the carpets was dirty,the shower was working but only on cold. I was frightened to death to see what was under the bed,so we slept in clothes only and on top of the covers,luckily dd had a fleece blanket so we all wrapped up with that,ive never felt so disgusted.

Needless to say we took pictures,and wrote a full letter to virgin,and are awating there reply!

P,s The hotel was called "monaco" *name says it all* and was in the virgin 2002 brochure its not in this years i wonder why? hm
