Accomodating kids?

My son is a tad bit picky when it comes to eating his dinners.....will they make the following accommodations for him?

Toy story Pizza Planet - will they make a pizza to order? or all they all premade. Our son only likes cheese, NO sauce. Will they do that?

If a kids menu has a cheeseburger on it, will they hold the meat and just give him a bun with cheese?

1. They're premade, so probably not.

2. Don't see why you can't ask them to make a bun with cheese. All they can say is no.

Yes to them all. My DS used to be very picky when he was younger, and we never had a problem with them making special accomadations, wherever we went in WDW.

Most places do have grilled cheese sandwiches, so he could get that instead of the cheese burgerless burger.

OH he would be SO happy to live on grilled cheese the entire week! It is one reason we have dinner scheduled at the Plaza! LOL

My dd went through a phase where all she would eat was pb&j so I just made a couple sandwiches in the morning and threw them in my backpack and saved the $ on the full meal, and just ordered her fries or a fruit cup to go with her pb&j.

Instead of ordering a cheeseburger w/out the meat, you could save the $ and just pack a couple buns and kraft singles in your backpack and give him that to eat and then supplement it with whatever he would eat off of your meal.

Then you'll need to get a grilled cheese pretzel at Typhoon Lagoon. It's very good.

My son also is a big grilled cheese fan - even at 16 yrs old.

I did that last year for him.......but now he's on the meal plan so it's already paid for! How did you keep the cheese cold?

You will find that WDW will go out of there way to make your child happy to the best of their abilities. They are very used to dealing with food allergies and special requests, just be prepared that some of this will take more time than if you just ordered straight off the menu.

I just brought along a little thermal lunch bag and put ice in double-baggies and refilled it at soda machine ice despensers if it melted during the day. However, the nice thing about pb&j and kraft singles is that they don't spoil quickly so if they ice melted before I refilled it, the food didn't go bad. Of course it wasn't 90-100 degrees out - it was november/december nice weather.

I guess if he is on the meal plan, then I would definitely ask if they will accomodate him. Glad to hear other posters say that they will. Also if he will eat grilled cheese, give him that day in day out - it's not going to hurt them to eat the same thing everyday during your trip. They're happy, you're happy that he's eating something... I would say if you want to tackle the picky eating issue, wdw vacation is not the time to do it.

DH kept saying with dd that if she gets hungry enough she will eat what is put in front of her - he didn't like me "indulging" her at all. But I'm sure he wouldn't have liked listening to her whine and cry over having to eat whatever she didn't want to eat either. Sometimes it's a no win situation - either dd or dh would be whining about something!!! :rotfl2:

Good advice to remember.........a week eating the same thing won't hurt him, and if it keeps us all happy and in that Disney spirit......so be it! So I can eat at Main Street Bakery all week then, right?

Absolutely! as long as I can eat dole whips for breakfast!!! lol

On our last day, last year, we DID eat at the bakery......we just went through the (long) line (longest one we encountered all week) and got one of whatever looked good no matter what it was and all shared it on the sidewalk of Main St. The kids thought they were in heaven and knew they'd never get to eat like that at home!

My opinion is that there are VERY FEW places that offer grilled cheese. We went for 8 nights in Sept and I don't think there was one place that offered it.

Just a heads-up.

I agree with this. I can't remember any place off the top of my head that had grilled cheese.

Funny, the grilled cheese is also one of the reasons we're eating at the Plaza! My kids are picky and don't eat meat. Should be interesting! We've been to WDW a few times but now the girls are getting older and not wanting to share as much anymore.

I was told they couldn't do a pizza with no sauce because they were pre-made. Otherwise, though, they were as accomodating as they could be. My kids -- DD especially -- didn't eat much while we were there, especially the first year. This year she FINALLY likes pizza with sauce. Maybe try the "mickey magic" and see if your child will try something new that "Mickey" made or something?

Now I am getting a tad bit worried about this park and what he can eat :(
Looks like I might have to get him a PB & J from Starring Rolls or Studio Caterer - where are they located?

The Brown Derby has grilled cheese, I wonder if they would make me one to go?

sigh.

The Brown Derby is not equipped to accommodate for "to go" orders.

Pizza Planet - Could you just pat off some of the sauce, or is he that picky? Might he be just hungry enough that you offer him pizza from there that he'll eat? If he doesn't eat, could he just skip that meal and offer a snack so he doesn't starve?

Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches at Disney are uncrustables. If he is as picky as it sounds, that may not work for him. If it does work for him, then try starring rolls (near Sunset) or Studio Catering (on Mickey Avenue)

Not sure of what he will or will not eat, but you could always order an adult meal of something he likes and split it with him too.

I have found at many restaurants that just because it isn't on the menu doesn't mean they won't make it, especially something as easy as a grilled cheese. Most restaurants do have sliced bread and cheese on hand. It never hurts to ask! The worst they can tell you is no.

My other thought is if you do find something that he will eat but doesn't eat all of it, put it in a baggie and take it with you. Make sure you put extra ziplock baggies in your purse/backpack. Maybe he will eat it later in the day...
