Accidental Death at WDW

So sad. I have known two people-both in their 60s - who fell down stairs because they had just had a massive stroke. Who knows how much the fall actually injured them, but the fall was due to the stroke. A dear friend's husband drove into a concrete wall at 40 mph. The autopsy revealed a heart attack that preceded the crash. There is not always third party liablity.

I could not believe how dim the lighting was at World Showcase.

I am so sad for this family. They will be in my thoughts and prayers.

OMG - i just saw this thread and I am crying and heartbroken for this family.

My dad (67yo) had a stroke while driving 1.5 years ago and survived. Then he had open heart surgery and suffered a massive stroke during surgery. Again, he survived but with limited functioning. We are actually bringing him to WDW this coming May. I can not imagine what the family must be going thru.

My thoughts and prayers will be with them.

We were at MK that night as well for MVMCP and yes, it was very dark. I am not sure where I was when all of this was going on, but I did manage to miss it all somehow. How very sad... Prayers out to everyone involved.

Have you ever been to the World Showcase at night? It's like navigating with a blindfold on.

That is VERY true. I was walking around the World Showcase last week with my mom and I swear we could barely see in front of us. People walking 10 feet in front of us were mere dark silhouettes. They really need better lighting. I can imagine walking around with small children must be very scary also as it seems like it would be so easy to lose sight of them even if they're only 10 feet away.

My prayers goes out to they family!! How sad!:sad1:

I remember watching people trip over or off the curb by the castle. It was dark out and that curb just disappears! Disney does need some more ground lighting.

I was shocked at how dark all of MGM was. It seemed the darkest to navigate at night to me. Not that I wanted it lit up like Times Square, but it was a surprise.

I am very sorry to hear about this accident but it is wrong that the deceased's name was posted on this thread.....In my opinion, it is a complete disregard to one's privacy and shouldn't have been done.

It is so tragic..... but his name was released in various newspaper articles and no one in this entire thread has been disrepectful in any manner. In fact, there has been nothing but great concern expressed for his family and he was known personally to several in this thread. It is so,so sad and a terrible reminder that accidents can happen anywhere.

I released the name because others on this thread are from the same area and were curious. The name was in the paper and a matter of public record. I'm so glad this thread has been as sincere as it has-one was closed on another site due to disrespect and idiotic remarks.

Thanks everyone for helping me piece together the details of this event.

Sending up prayers for this family (and the family of the CM at AK as well). How sad.

Thoughts, prayers and hugs go out to this family:grouphug: May God give them the strength to get through this....

so very, very sad... :( My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

...............................................................................................

Disney can be extrememly dark. The worst thing I ever saw was the woman who lost her 5 year old son at EPCOT in World Showcase right before Illuminations. Can you even imagine trying to find a young child in the dark in the crowds???? I assume that they found him since I never saw anything about a child never being found.

I was just in WDW this weekend, and I did hear on the news that a guest died after falling at the MK the other night. I imagine that is the gentleman you are speaking about. So, sorry. I can't even imagine what that family is feeling right now. My thoughts and prayers are with them.
