Hello all,

My DS is 3 and has Cerebral Palsy. As a result he cannot walk. We have a special therapy umbrella type stroller that we use for him('cause he's getting too heavy for the regular ones).

My question is will we be able to use this stroller in the ride queue's? Or is it something that we'd use the handicapped entrances for(how many rides have this)? As I mentioned, he cannot walk so we'd be holding him while waiting for rides otherwise....and that's like holding an extra large sack of potatoes!!:rotfl:

I read something on the DISabilities board about a guest assistance pass that can be obtained to put on the stroller......does it work the same for DLR?

Thanks for any assistance you all can offer!

You will be able to go thru the handicapped line and using the stroller will be fine.( no need for a special assistance pass) Just tell the CM at the entrance he can not walk and they will allow you to go thru the handicapped line. Have a wonderful trip :)

I thought I'd always read that you do need a GAC sort of pass to allow the stroller to be used "as a wheelchair". But maybe that's just WDW.

The lines in DCA are accessible b/c the park was built after the rules went into effect, but the lines in DL were built before, so there will often be a special entrance to use; just ask the CMs where to go.

I would get the special pass - your whole group will be able to enter through the handicap entrance and ride the rides together that way. You will have a lot less wait time for rides if you utilize the pass wiht the handicap entrance rather than going through the que.

My dad is in a wheelchair and the many trips we have made together the CM's have been more than accomadating with getting us in the handicapped entrances. Just let the CM know and they will direct you and your party through the handicap entrance. We a few times had a rather large party go all through the handicap entrance. I would imagine your stoller would be a similar situation. You do get through the lines a bit quicker but you miss the queues and the handicap entrances in Fantasy Land are rather tight. DCA queues are all accessable since its a newer park. Have a wonderful trip!!

That's what I remember reading too.

You don't need a GAC (Guest Assistance Card) to bring a wheelchair or ECV into a line or use whatever is listed as the wheelchair entrance in the Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities. This is true both in WDW and at DisneyLand.

BUT, strollers are a little different and I would suggest getting a GAC for your stroller. I used to say one was not needed, but in the past year, people have been posting that they have had problems getting their stroller recognized as a mobility device.
One reason is probably that special needs strollers are now being designed to look more like 'regular' strollers.
Another reason is that 'regular' strollers are getting larger - it used to be that once your child was over 3, they were too big for those. So, the 'regular' strollers are getting more like the special needs strollers.
The last reason is that people with larger kids without special needs are renting special needs strollers for their 5+ yr old kids.

All of those things make it harder for CMs to know who needs to bring a stroller into lines. You may not have a problem, but at least you will be prepared.

The GAC process works pretty much the same at WDW and DL, so you can use the information in post #6 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread about GACs for either park.
There is also a small section about DL in the disABILITIES FAQs thread, which includes a link to the DL Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities.

Thanks for all of your help everyone! That will be awesome if we can all go in through the same line at once......there is 7 of us total in our party.

If you stop at City Hall on main street they can give a brochure that tells you how to access the handicap entrances on all DL rides. Some are confusing and we never would have figured it out on our own. Like PP said the DCA rides are all accesible through the regular line. Good luck!
