Access Paratransit

This is to inform those who use Access Paratransit Services in their local area. You can use their services at WDW. You can get a vacation/visitor's service for up to 21 days within a years time. My original service is in Los Angeles. I have used "vacation/visitor's service" in Nashville, TN & Birmingham, AL. I am using them @ WDW, in additional to Disney's internal transportation.

Yes, anyone who is qualified in their hometown for paratransit services can use it as a reciprocal service in any other state/city. I have used Access Lynx in Orlando ( I live here) and my only word of warning is that they are often late...and sometimes very late.---Kathy

I actually had no issues in Chicago, Great Lakes, or Las Vegas ( my Mom lives there). However in Orlando, I was regularly picked up late and I used the service daily for two months and as such was a priority with a "subscription". For instance, I got off work at 5:30pm one night and the driver didn't get me til almost 8:00pm...then we had to pick up and drop off other people. Also if you are late, by 5 minutes, they can leave you, but you have to be ready at least 1/2 hour before your scheduled pick up. I wouldn't use it during a vacation where time was of the essence unless I had no other option.---Kathy

It's also horrible in Greensboro, NC. Greensboro's paratransit is the ONLY form of accessible transportation available in the city. Mears has accessible cabs, which are a nice "Plan B" if LYNX has a problem.

I am very glad to hear that there are places with good paratransit, but I have always found paratransit to be very frustrating across the country.

What's interesting is that in Orlando the only transportation I've been on is a small bus- same in Las Vegas. In Chicago I had a private taxi every time I used the service during my one week visit. Going to Great Lakes I had a private taxi to/from O'Hare and then a large bus in the city itself. I much prefer the private taxi's as obviously then you aren't subject to picking up and delivering other riders and there's a greater chance of being on time. I'm looking into paratransit in San Francisco for next year and am happy to see there are also accessible taxi's. I'm going to have to arrange our excursions as although we are in the US, DCL is not offering ANY w/c accessible excursions there.---Kathy

Just returned from WDW. Had a marvelous time. I used Lynx Paratransit twice. On Monday, 1/24 to go to the Grand Floridian for breakfast and on Friday 1/28. Went to Premium Outlets. Had no problems with Lynx. My worst travel experience, was Thurs. 1/27. I was staying @ CSR, trying to get to ESPN Club. I needed ahandicapped accessible taxi. Waited 45 minutes going to Boardwalk and later waited an hour to return to CSR. But Mears, sure were advertising their luxury services!

Wait times in Tucson AZ sound the same as Orlando.Some drivers are better than others.We use the bus services when we can as it is faster.Bus drivers here order people out of the seats in tie-down locations so unless another chair is already onboard plenty of tie-downs per bus.
I have had good luck while traveling Phoenix and LA.Most places we go I talk with friends first to see if they use their local paratransport and like it.

Houston is pretty bad, too. You can wait a couple of hours after the time you request service--even if you request it in advance. Going to the doctor usually takes a full day.
