My family is considering an OKW rental, but I need to know if the upper story rooms are accessable by elevator. My dad uses an ECV & can't climb stairs. If we rent points from a member, can they specify that we need an accessable room, or do we just take luck of the draw for 1st floor?

Yes, you can specify that you need a 1st floor room for medical reasons and you will get it. The newer buildings (62,63, and 64 i think) have elevators.:bounce:

Just confirming what mooses41 said. Make make sure that whoever is making your reservation specifies that you need first floor for medical reasons. It should also have wording similar to that on the reservation confirmation sheet and you will have no problem.
Only those few new buildings have elevators, so it is easier just to ask for first floor. You might also want to ask for close to the Main pool area. They don't guarantee the location, but it you are farther away and plan to use the main pool a lot, it's either a long ecv ride or a bus to get there.

The new buildings with elevators are not available for persons in an ECV. At least thats what the front desk told me this past November. But you will have no problem if you ask for a handicap accessible villa. They will confirm the room for you and you will get it.
If you rent points from a member have them make the request for you. If you rent direct from DVC, ask for the above.

We stayed last March in the second floor of one of the new buildings (I think it was 63) with a person who uses a manual wheelchair. She can't walk at all. We have reservations for March with a medical request for first floor or buildings with wheelchair (that is what it says). So, I'm not sure if what KyBill was told is a firm policy or just what one CM had to say. It may be that they don't want powered equipment like ecvs on the 2nd floor. Who knows?
Unless you have some great desire to be on 2nd floor, I would just stick with first floor for medical reasons.

When I checked in in Nov last I had requested handicap accessible in a bldg with an elevator. That was printed on my confirmation. The CM told me with a wheelchair or ECV I could not be on an upper floor since in the event of a fire the elevators did not work. I was in my ECV at the time of check in. I had looked forward to the upper floor view for the first time. It didn't happen.
I posted a thread a couple months ago and questioned this as it certainly is not true at BWV or HH where we have been on upper floors with only elevators access.

Go figure????

Yes, I remember that thread.
We'll see what we get on our next trip, but we were on 2nd floor last March and they knew my DD uses a wheelchair.
I agree it doesn't make much sense; especially since we were told while it was being built that one of the reasons they were putting in elevators was so that people who could not walk up the steps would have the opportunity to stay on more than the first floor. I thought they said that some of the upper floor rooms would be fully handicapped accessible. The room we were in wasn't, but we didn't need it to be.
