Accepted ID??

Hi all,

Im sure this has been asked a million times But im just wondering what forms of ID you all use in WDW.

Im 26 and mum is 50 I understand we will both need to carried ID at all times but Im hesitant to carry both passports with me at all times.
I have read some places take drivers licences/student ID some dont etc so I dunno what to do.
There is a national garda age card in Ireland(kinda like a national ID but not quite as formal), it just proves that your over 18 and states your date of birth etc......but I dont know if that would be accepted I was considering ordering them for us but no point if they will only accept passports.

Any help greatly appreciated.

The vast, vast majority of the time, you'll be fine with your driving licence

I know most people on here will comment on here and say that they've only ever used their driving licence and it has always been fine. However, I know there's a few who've had a driving licence rejected as ID on the odd rare occasion.

On buying alcohol at a bar in DTD (it was Bongos I think), they would not accept my driving licence as proof of age whatsoever. They insisted that I needed a passport for ID - no biggie though. We left, and went to HoB and Planet Hollywood for drinks instead, which accepted my driving licence no problem. So that's my only experience if I remember correctly of needing a passport.

Whenever I've been asked for ID at WDW when paying for something with a card, I have always used my driving licence and that's been fine some people will ask you, a lot won't...

Anyhow, there is no way on earth that I'm carrying my passport around with my everyday. I'll be taking my driving licence and that's it - would be gutted, and in a whole heap of Doo Doo if I lost the passport! For me, if somewhere refuses the driving licence as ID, I'll just move on and go somewhere else!

Thats all I needed to know!! I was just thinking it would be a handy way out cause if there lost there only €10 each.

Yet again thank you so much!! Yea thats a good way to look at it, if it doesnt work....move on. think ill stick with drivers licence mines only a provisional but hopefully its ok. also I new I had seen something about ids before was looking for that thread lol thanks a mill

Technically you're supposed to carry your passport at all times whilst in the US.

Have always used my driving license and have never had a problem. Like Beth said, if somewhere refused my driving license as ID, I'd just go elsewhere

Just curious - who says you have to always carry your passport whilst in the US??? I've never carried mine at any time and don't take my driver's licence. Am I breaking the law?

Do you need to show i.d if you're using a prepaid currency card rather than an actual credit/debit card?

At least we come from a country that is well known!
On our last trip we were with some friends from New Zealand who were using driving licenses as ID in House of Blues and they didn't think it was a real country and thought it was fake ID!
Very tempted to get a map out!

We've always used our drivers licence with no problems at supermarkets, bars, when using my cc etc.

I've never heard your supposed to carry your passport around with you, you are supposed to carry photo id though. I've been stopped by the police and all they wanted to see was my id.

It's not a hard and fast rule I don't think, but there were times both within WDW and shopping malls etc, where I was asked for ID when I used my Fairfx card/debit card. Most of the time I wasn't asked though..

US Federal Law - passport with visa. Doubt it's adhered to, I know I haven't always had mine on me.

Bus driver in Bedford wouldn't let my Mum (age 78!) use her bus pass as it said 'South Holland' as he thought she was Dutch. In fairness not everyone would know it's South Lincolnshire but why did he think it was all in English

We only carry Drivers Licence too, OK for credit card & pre-payment cards (although not asked to produce very often). Supermarket trips to stock up on alchol last rip DH did take passport - but we don't carry round all day. If you do decide to carry round I'd reccomend putting in waterproff wallet or similar to ensure kept dry on waterrides & possible heavy downpours etc.

My boyfriend and I have been over 6 times and have used our Garda IDs all the time over there - never been refused! They may look at it a bit quizically at first, but in my experience it's been no problem at all

I asked about why some places ask for ID on payment and it's has to do with the value of the goods purchased. Can't remember what the value is though but we always just take our drivers licence with us and never had a problem. Must admit at 32 and 39 we get a kick out being asked lol

we always have a copy of our passports with us.As for photo ID it will be needed If you use a CC sometimes in shops (don't have chip n pin over there)
For buying alcohol always a must in target and they have to get a supervisor to put DOB in as wrong way round.
If cashing a large TC they will sometimes ask for ID
for ID we use our photo Drivers licence
