For my upcoming September trip, we have come up with a great idea since we are not on the DDP. We are each going to contribute a certain amount (like $200) to place on one gift card, to use as our form of payment when we go to our sit down meals. So my question is, do all of the restaurants on grounds including the ones at downtown disney accept the Disney gift card as a form of payment?

What if i buy a generic Visa or Amex gift card. Will i have a problem paying with those?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

I believe all three will be accepted. The only one I would worry about is the Gift Card as far as Downtown Disney restaurants go. I THINK they all take Disney gift cards, but I'm not positive. All restaurants at the parks and resorts should take it.

As of 2006, most disney expenses can be charged on the following: American Express, Mastercard, Visa, Discover Card, diners Club, Disney's Visa and Disney gift cards. Some snack stands accept cash only. I realize you want to be "fair" but try not to be too creative. If you have one of the above cards, why not take turns using them? At least that way, you're earning your points or miles, or whatever else you have. If you do a seperate type of gift card, no one gets any points for any of the purchases.

I think the Visa and American Express cards they were talking about were the prepaid gift variety, so they could prepay everything.

Thanks for all the responses guys! I found the following information from the official DIS website:

The Walt Disney World Shopping and Dining Cards essentially are gift cards that can be purchased in denominations from $5.00 to $1500.00. The features are as follow:

* The cards can be purchased at select merchandise and quick serve dining locations.
* The cards do not expire and there are no fees applied if you carry a balance
* The cards are accepted at select merchandise, dining, resort, ticketing and recreation locations
* Additional funds can be added
* The cards can be used in conjunction with other payment methods
* Disney Dollars can be used to purchase the Walt Disney World Gift Cards
* Remaining card balances can be accessed at any location that accepts the card. Additionally, cardholders can call the toll free number (877-650-4327) to obtain this information
* Two receipts are issued during purchase. If a card is lost or stolen, the original receipt, not the gift receipt, is required for replacement
*

RESTRICTIONS:

* The Disney Gift Card cannot be used at the Rainforest Cafe, Richard Petty Experience, Jellyroll's or McDonald's
* The Disney Gift Card cannot be used to purchase Disney Dollars/Gift Certificates/Gift cards
* The Disney Gift Card cannot be redeemed for cash. However, if you do not use your card at all, it can be returned to the original form of payment providing you have the original proof of purchase receipt. (Once you've used it, this can't be done.)

So looks like the easiest thing to do is the Disney Gift Card! (Minus Rainforest Cafe)....thanks!
