Why is it in Tampa? What school is there?

It's been in DC and Greensboro, no schools are in either of those cities. The only city they ever have it in that is the home of a school is Atlanta.

What's wrong with Tampa? As a VA fan I'd much rather have to travel a little further to get away to nicer weather this time of year!

I didnt mean to imply there was anything wrong with it, its just not on the atlantic coast! I thought maybe there was a school I didnt know about. Just seemed odd to me.

It's only fair to FSU and Miami for the tourney to be somewhere south of NC every once in a while.

For many years, the ACC tournament was in Greensboro period. That was just where it was. I think 1976 was the first one to be elsewhere. Then it started moving around a little bit but mostly remaining in Greensboro. Other regular sites were Washington or Landover (near Maryland), Atlanta (home of Georgia Tech) and Charlotte (near Clemson and pretty close to Wake, Carolina, Duke and State). Tampa was a bit different b/c it's not particularly near either of the Florida schools. In recent years, it's not had a "home" place, and I'm guessing that will continue.

The ACC football championship was in Jacksonville, FL, and there's not a team there either.

As an old-time "Tobacco Road" ACC basketball fan, at first it seemed weird to have it in Tampa, but actually I see the point in doiing it. It makes sense to spread it around a bit. I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the Boston Garden someday. The downside is that those of us here in the Greensboro area miss having the economic windfall that the tourney always brings to the region.
