AC with a Tent

Howdy Campers,

I'd like to hear from any of you who have used a window AC unit along with a tent. Did it work well? How did you set it up? Were you cool and comfortable inside your tent?

Sorry, I've never used an AC unit in a tent, just portable fans, and they always seemed to work well.

The only reason I'm commenting is to let you know that I loved the picture of your feet up on the people mover...lol

Thanks, I love that picture, too - it just says total relaxation to me.

What time of year was it, and how hot outside, when you used the fan in the tent?

Well, we haven't stayed in a tent in a years, we stay in a camper now. But I've stayed during the summer months, your best bet if you're going to use a fan would be to have one of the "larger" models (of course if you can fit that, unless you're flying). I don't think a small one would do much. Even in the hot summer months, it can at least get a bit cooler in Ft. Wilderness, although still in the mid to upper 70's.

Mostly it will depend on the humidity, that is the main problem. It can be hot, but a fan can take care of the heat. But if it's 90% humidity out, you're going to feel sticky, and that's no fun.

My DGF and I stayed at FW in a tent for 7 nights last August. We got down there right after the huge heat-wave, but it was still very hot. Amazingly, one box fan kept us nice and cool (enough to use a sheet) during the night. Just be sure to get out of the tent before the sun creeps up over the trees! Instant furnace!

I was looking for the older links on here as i've seen them before. The people who us a/c's in there tents say they work good. They just sudjest using a dark colored tarp overtop or reflex to keep in the cool. Either way it's a great way to cool the tent down and help keep the humidity down

Thanks for posting the links!!! I've been wanting to camp with our kids but we live in the south and it get's very hot and sticky in the summer. I've always wondered about a/c for the tent and now I really want to try it!!

It was hot.... but it was bareable... Just get out of the tent early and it was nice to change in the comfort stations becuase they had AC. It was cool enough at night too, but it was refreshing to jump in the pool or take a nice cool shower before bed!! Pool is 24 hours...
