I'm a school teacher so I've had a lot more time recently to catch up on all things Disney during the summer break. My kids and I have watched several videos of Carsland and the new Fantasyland expansion. We've also watched the videos of the Art of Animation Resort. My kids (range 9-16 years old), think the AOA resort looks just awesome! They really want to stay there. I looked at to see if we might possibly do a couple of cash nights there, but during peak season it would probably be about $400 a night!:scared: This is not a thread about wanting to use my points there, I realize that even if we could it would not be a "good" use of my points. We've talked about our next stay and where we might stay, VWL, BL, maybe Boardwalk, they really aren't thrilled with any of them! "They don't really have a theme," my middle child said. I guess a "theme" to them is large cartoon icons everywhere!;) So for now, they will just have to "rough" it in the DVC deluxe accomodations that I can secure with my points!:rotfl: This did make me think though, Disney seems to really be "updating" a lot of their rooms with some real eye candy for kids. The castle headboards, the pirate ship rooms, and these new family suites that are popping up, do you ever wish that DVC had any of these type offerings? It doesn't seem that any of the deluxe resorts have changed their decor to this type thing. Obviously those DVC members that don't have children will probably feel differently about this subject than those that do. Anyone care to share your feelings?

my kids picked AS Movies over DVC studio for 1 night prior to our 1 week stay @ OKW. They would have picked POP or ASMovies for the whole trip, if I let them! I spent 3 nights @ POP once for free dining before moving to SSR--1 night is now my max! They like the eye candy and don't care about noise, kitchens, etc. However, they do care about community halls and once I said there is no CH @ AS Movies, they said that they will leave in the AM to transfer over to OKW.

Lol
I happen to love AS Movies and POP and think they are the most "Disney" resorts on property. I'd rather stay there than at the contemporary resort.

I don't have kids, but I know a lot of folks who do that currently stay at the values bc the kids pick them and won't be looking at the DVC till the kids are a little older.

I miss the value resorts, until I look out my balcony window and see the giraffes ;)

My DS (26) would like me to rent my points so we can stay at AOA in October. He will be on his honeymoon 9/30-10/4. DH and I are bringing his 4yo to WDW to meet up with them the 4th. I have 2BR at OKW and really don't want to give up my balcony. Guess we will just have to settle for a visit to check out AOA and try out the pool if hopping is allowed there.

If its just the cost and not that you don't want to stay there because YOU like the DVC resorts and villas you could always rent out your points and then book at AoA. However being a DVC member myself I love having all the space and the laundry in room etc so I would totally understand if you just didn't want to!

We have stayed at almost all resorts on property, including DVC and Disney, so my kids have been in every category of resort.

They absolutely prefer DVC resorts! We only stay in 1 bedrooms, and Old Key West is our fav, as it truly reminds us of home. They can see huge statues throughout the resort area, but being comfortable in the room, awesome swimming areas and full kitchens is our priority! Sure there are some cool new themed rooms on property, but we would never pay extra to stay in any of those, as we have DVC.

We have stayed on a cash night here or there over the years, but we don't do that anymore, as we just prefer to use our points and get our vacation started. We won't pay cash for Disney rooms, as we've spend a mint on DVC!

Good luck OP with your decision. I would refrain from showing the kids photos of the new resort though, as you are just asking for trouble there. If you feel you want to stay there, then rent your points or pay cash, as suggested. But if you have no intention of ever staying there, then I don't think it's fair to your kids to keep showing them those other resorts.

Well I have to say that my kids (10 & 12) are spoiled. We stayed at the Contemporary MK view our first trip several years ago. Our next trip we stayed at the Poly, standard Garden view room. It was that trip that we bought DVC. We have since done a cruise and 2 shorter trips to BLT. My kids love it there, even though it is not "themed" for some folks. We love the Contemporary and the monorail. Ahhhhh I wish I was there now.....:goodvibes

Me personally, I look at the All Star resorts and the new AOA, and think, cool, but too much in your face for me. The rooms at AOA look so loud and over themed. But to each their own. I think its great that Disney has different levels of themes. I hope the dont do any kind of upgrades like these to the DVC. I find them relaxing....

they started their theme with the All stars resort - Pop is a step beyond them and AoA is a bigger step.

they want to appeal to little ones and older folks - that would rather stay offsite than at Disney. I like it. It is definitely fun.

that say - between even getting a room at Pop that you can see some of the larger fireworks at Epcot and gettins a standard room at BLT w/firework views.

blt wins everytime!

Show them the savannah view at AKL, if you're interested in spending your points there. I bet all the animals will get them excited!

Or even the Magic Kingdom view at BLT. :goodvibes

Seriously??? Thanks for your opinion about what I should and shouldn't show my children. You've missed the point of my post obviously.

Thanks to those of you that have shared. That was the whole point of my post. I was curious as to whether you would ever like to see a DVC resort that is that heavily themed. I have no intention of renting out my points and paying to stay at any value resort as I stated in my post. It just isn't cost effective, and I wouldn't want to give up my better accomodations to do so. Since we are going the week after Easter in 2013, much will depend on what is available at the 7 month mark. If not, we'll stay at VWL our home resort and be very happy there. :goodvibes

Ummm...it was a joke. :happytv:

We all know how enticing the Disney promos can be. :wizard:

Good luck with your decision, Tiger
