Abuse of Evening EMH

I read on another post that Disney will probably issue wrist bands to resort guests staying for the new evening EMH. Most think this will probably work like MNSSHP and MVMCP where you go to designated locations, show your room key, and get your wristband.

I see a lot of potential for abuse of this system. Presumably you just have to show a room key to get the wristband. If my family was staying onsite but had friends staying offsite, what would stop me from showing my room key and getting a wristband, and then giving my key to a friend who is staying offsite. He could then wait 30 minutes or go to another location and get a wristband even though he is not staying onsite.

Does anyone really think the CMs will do anything other than check to see if you have a room key. I doubt they'd ask for a second ID or run it through any type of scanner.

It could be real easy for a non resort guest to get a wristband. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if some unscrupulous people would set up a scam to "sell" a room key for a few minutes to let a non resort guest get a wristband.

Does anyone else see the potential for some abuse of this system?

I would not worry about this. I doubt that enough people KNOW that many people in Orlando to drive up the crowds. This abuse already happens with E nights and people seem to have survived.

If Disney runs this like E-Nights a WDW resort guest would have to report to the desk at their hotel, get a plastic card after proving thier guest status, and it is this card that is exchanged for the wristband. Not foolproof but more difficult for an 'outsider' to score a band.

First, let me say that those who break the rules get me SERIOUSLY peeved!
And I have let a few line-cutters KNOW about it.

OTOH...

There are ways to circumvent most any "standard" safeguard ("Locks only keep honest people out.") We as a society must depend on "civility" to take care of most rules of protocol.

In this case, the predominant facts are that those staying on-property are out-of-towners who are passing thru WDW on VACATION so there won't be vast herds of on-property evil-doer's ready to sell their "birth-rights" (room-keys), even temporarily, to hordes of faceless skulkers trying to slither their way onto MK (or wherever) rides after the posted hours.
Yes, I can see where expired room-keys might become a hot new collectible for townies. The dates on the keys may become more important if abuses rise.

But, the numbers (PERCENTAGE-wise) of those who will play-out clandestine schemes to "breach the walls" for a couple of extra park hours (to steal an extra fly-thru on Space Mountain or a Dumbo spin) should be very small.

I've done EMH's and E-Ride Nights and simply had too MUCH extra fun to ever have a couple of "extra guests" get in my way.

I hate to think that cheaters could ever get through... but NOT enough to have WDW stop offering these extras (or devise a "far-too-complex" screening system) because of a few ne'er-do-wells.

Carol, I'm not really worried about it. It just struck me as something that would be very easy to cheat on. Easier than E-nights and MNSSHP since they require an actual ticket that is turned in. And a little easier than the morning EMH, which at least has the concept that a resort ID needs to be shown for admission to the park (although I guess the same thing could happen--someone with an offsite friend handing them their room key through the "fence").

I know there is abuse in the current EMH (since room keys are not always checked by CMs) and E-nights. And there are always people who will find away to get around the system. This just struck me as being very easy to cheat.

Bill, I agree your idea would make it more difficult. But, it doesn't sound like Disney will be issuing any type of hard ticket that needs to be turned in.

Oh well, I guess we'll see how the evening EMH will work.

I was talking to a CM from CRO yesterday and we were discussing this new EMH for the evenings. She looked into their system to see how it was supposed to work. According to what she said, you will need your room key for EACH guest upon entering the park. Then you will be given your wrist band. ::yes::

It sounds to me like the gate is where the wrist band will be given. You will have to enter the park with a ticket in hand. I don't think that once you are already inside, you could wander up to a CM, flash a resort key and get the wrist band then. I wonder since the resort keys all have magnetic strips on them if they will swipe the key...wouldn't that show if it has already been swiped that day for emh?? If you can swipe the card for charging privledges, this seems like the way they might go. :earsboy:

According to wdwmaig.comc
Resort Guests wishing to enjoy Evening Extra Magic Hours should obtain a wristband at one of the following by presenting a valid Key to the World Card: At the Main Entrance turnstile no sooner than three hours prior to Park close. At select locations throughout the park no sooner than two hours prior to Park close.

So it looks like they pass them out just like at e-night.... I dont think it would work to well to make everyone exit and come back in

Robo - good one! (And I now have a vision in my head of trench-coated guys lurking by the trams, going "Psst..wanna buy a room key....have I got a deal for you!")

I'm a room key junkie. I NEED that room key. I need that Disney fix you get from an EMH:jester:

Since it says valid room key, I would assume that it would be swiped, like for a fast pass, with only one given out per key.

Ciao,
Mort.

I'm thinking in line with the others that have mentioned that it probably isn't that well known to the masses to actually make a difference if a few get in that shouldn't. I do think the ee in the morning is well known however. I'm nearly certain I read a post somewhere (maybe not on the dis) advising offsite guests to schedule an early PS inside the emh park and then once inside, enjoy emh and no show the PS. I don't know if people really do that, but it would be possible.
